freshman year I majored in Urban Studies as I was unaware of what I wanted to do as a career.
During that time, I also began taking Communications classes that piqued my interest. I began
finding these courses more interesting to what fit my future endeavors. Both fields offer a wide
array of possibilities to explore. Classes have opened my eyes to ideas that I had not even
considered, such as social media which I use in my current position. Other courses included
advertising and digital imaging that I use and continue to improve. Hands on experience helped
to continue my passion for Communications. Both of my majors will help to keep me diverse
and offer me a versatile education, giving me the ability to excel in any position.
I have seen first-hand the importance of how communications can be used to improve
businesses. I have used it to improve business practices by onboarding a new system and
applying marketing techniques. I feel confident that I can use these skills in my current position
and any future ones. I first started using the skills I learned after completing the social media
course which led me to managing multiple pages; to advertise business and events. This
intrigued me into social media and all the career options that follow. Most business have social
media accounts to promote themselves. I wasn’t aware that the communications field had many
options to choose a career from. The courses have made me well versed in different areas of the
media including public speaking. That course made me more comfortable speaking in groups of
people, especially in a working environment. My time at WSU has given me the confidence to
pursue any career where I am able to apply my passion of communications. Wherever that
