Since I was a young girl, I’ve always been a very creative person. So when deciding on a
major in junior college, I instinctively knew I needed a major that would allow me to express my
creative side and gain the skill set necessary for today’s job market. I initially majored in Liberal
Arts and thereby earned an AA Degree, which allowed me to transfer to Worcester State
major at WSU, I was able to obtain a knowledgeable skill set that I can now carry out into the
media content.
Worcester State University had given me the ability to complete a marketing internship
while enrolled in school. During my marketing internship at Oriol Health Care, I discovered my
passion for marketing. I found that I worked remarkably well in the advertising, promoting, and
public relations fields and loved having a large degree of freedom while choosing content for my
video creation. Furthermore, during my internship, I created several digital media and media
writing compositions such as a press release on organization events, a job recruitment video
showcased on all company social media platforms, multiple event flyers and cardholders on
Microsoft Publisher, and a logo sticker for an upcoming event in their facility. In addition to my
advertising and promoting projects, I delved into public speaking when asked to present a new
type of software called Hootsuite to my colleagues. I created an in-depth PowerPoint present and
hosted a meeting where I explained all the qualities of a social media manager application such
as Hootsuite offers. They thought this was a good idea, and they further discussed it with the
marketing team’s managers. As a result, my internship advisor suggested I seriously consider
marketing because I have exceptional attention to detail, am proficient in writing and public
speaking skills, and have a social media management and marketing strategies background.
Altogether, my passion and inherent interest in the marketing field, combined with the
experience I have gained throughout my time at WSU and Oriol Health Care, have significantly
contributed to achieving my goals and furthering my career. I will use my communication skills
to further make effective and professional connections within the marketing field as one of my
goals. After graduation, my ultimate goal would be to advance in a marketing associate position
at a company with a compelling mission statement that I agree with, and a strong teamwork
environment.
