Immunization is a service offered under paedtric, de;partment, and it aims at ensuring all
children in Kenya are vaccinated against communicable diseases . Immuniza;tion in necessary
and it has been spearheaded by the ministry of health and constitution of Kenya…. that every
child has a right to get immunized.

1.2 STATEMENT PROBLEM

Kenya has a population of approximately 42 million out of which 1.5 million are surviving
infants targeted for routine immunization services that is delivered through a network of more
than 5703 health facilities and clinics spread across 47 counties in the country. Despite the
immunization system in Kenya being fairly well developed, an estimated 450,000 children are
not fully vaccinated(National Planning Cycles, 2015). National Policy Cycles also indicated in
the document that in Kenya, most immunizations primarily take place in fixed posts and there is
need to institutionalize the REC (Reach Every Child) strategy to sustain the gains made and to
reach more children with lifesaving vaccines. In addition, the above cannot be achieved if the
local facilities meant to ensure REC strategy is fully implemented and rolled-out still face a
challenge of Poor data quality and recurrent stock-out of tools leading to delayed and incomplete
data reporting, lack of prerequisite skills in data management at county and sub-county levels
including data analysis and use of data for decision making, and poor collection and management
of vaccine utilization data, National Planning Cycles added while highlighting health sector
challenges.

1.3 AIM
Aim is to manage a hospital immunization system that tracks child’s immunization schedule
from birth to 9 months and manage vaccines stock.
1.4 OBJECTIVES
 Manage immunization medical records
 Manage vaccines stock
 Adapt a unified schedule for immunization

1.5 SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The system will only track children whose parents have signed up or registered with the Hospital
Management System at any level between birth-9 months. However, any foreign child or a child
whose parents adapted a different system of immunization may not be accommodated in the this
system until the adapted system is examined by the Ministry of Health and proper
recommendation given before resuming immunization in the Kenya.
