Morrie Shwartz was the sociology professor of Mitch Albom , author of the book
“Tuesdays with Morrie”. The title came from the fact that Morrie would always hold his class on
a Tuesday as he himself said “We are Tuesday people Mitch”. Mitch was a column writer and a
Tv telecaster. The book follows the story line of him learning from Morrie in his final days.
The story revolves around Mitch Album who led a very busy life so much so as to he
forgot about the important things he had in his life outside of his work including love,marriage
and living life to its fullest. It seems as tho he became very successful but it never occurred to
him that he was failing something far more greater and that is life
Mitch Alboms professor Morrie Shwartz became a philosophical guide and mentor for him
in his college years and even tho Mitch promised he would remain in touch, they never did. After
16 years when Mitch learns that his professor is dying from ALS he comes to visit him and
rediscovers the guide and friend he knew and respected all those years ago. Morrie resumed his
counseling and guide with Mitch again this time but the nature of the course was unique this time
as he taught more about living then any regular school course
Morrie would always hold his sessions on Tuesdays and with each passing Tuesday he
would relive his experiences which made him the person he was and instill them to Mitch.Morrie
deemed himself as lucky even though he was dying, he used to say that hes embarking on his
final journey to leave a message for mankind that they should value the lives given to them and
that we should actually live before dying and according to Morrie he says” When you’ll learn
how to die you’ll learn how to live”. He also talks a great deal about love as according to him
people in love shouldn’t have problems deciding whether or not to live with each for the rest of
their lives. As Morrie states” Not letting ourselves be loved because we’re too afraid of giving
ourselves to someone we might lose”. His last and final thesis was about death and he talked
about it as much as he talked about life because after all the nature of life lies in death itself.
Mitch’s teacher died a peaceful death and their lsst thesis together was over. Those Tuesdays
with Morrie had changed his life forever.
What I loved most about this book was the warm and loving relationship it shows
between a teacher and a student. The relationship shown is so pure that a friendship is formed
between Mitch and Morrie and in reality it should be like that. The book also gives its readers an
insight to how we should actually live and that each moment is precious.Tuesdays with Morrie is
a beautiful book but it is also a sad book as it made me feel sad at several parts. Even if it doesn’t
bring tears to our eyes it will certainly leave you in a melancholic mood but nonetheless it is a
beautiful book that makes u think about life,death,experiences and different lessons long after
you’re done reading it.
