Name
The Power of the Wind
Have you ever seen a wind farm? On a wind farm,
dozens of spiky wind turbines are spread across miles of
country land. It is an incredible sight. The turbines look
like giant windmills from space. Some of them stand more
than 400 feet tall. They have three huge blades that turn in
the wind. When the blades move, they create energy. That
energy can power houses, offices, and factories. Today,
only a small portion of our energy comes from wind farms,
but wind energy can solve many problems.
Wind energy has some drawbacks. It costs more than
some other sources of energy. Some people think wind
turbines look ugly. The turbines can also hurt or kill
birds that fly into them. Still, the benefits outweigh the
drawbacks. Unlike gas, oil, and coal, wind turbines do
not pollute the air. Air pollution hurts not only birds but
also people and other animals. We can run out of gas, oil,
and coal, but we cannot run out of wind. One day, those
sources of energy will be used up. We need new, cleaner
sources, like wind farms.
