Critical analysis on the movie “Erin Brockovich”

"Erin Brockovich" is a movie directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Susannah

Grant; a biographical legal drama movie based on a true story which was released in the year
2000. An inspiring story of a mother who achieved success as a single parent. Erin Brockobich, a
hard - working woman, was the subject of the moving and intriguing story that was based on a
genuine event. The story of a dedicated mother who will stop at nothing to take care of her
children, as well as the interesting character who saved an entire site, grabbed the heart of the
audience.
As indicated by the title, the story revolves around Erin, a single mother who was
desperate to find work to support her children. The movie begins with Erin seeking to get
employment despite her lack of expertise, even going so far as to try to sue for compensation.
With her incredibly pursuasive attitude, she managed to secure a job at a legal office, guilt trippi-
ng her lawyer to grant her a job. Due to her blunt personality and fashion choices, her co-
workers, especially her female co-workers, did not respect her much, that is until she
investigated a very peculiar real estate case. As soon as she noticed something was wrong about
PG&E, she never stopped dedicating her work to the case to ensure that the locals get justice,
even sacrificing her time with her beloved kids. And that is the story on how the largest lawsuit
settlement awarded in a direct action happened in the United States.
What I truly like about the film was how diligently the director worked to create emotion
and empathy from the viewer. In the beginning of the film, Erin treats her kids to lunch despite
the fact that she doesn't have much money, ordering for her kids and not for herself shows she
only has enough cash to pay. She later revealed that she was actually starving and eating canned
goods. That scene really did capture my heart, her action of love and care for her kids shows out
how selfless of a mother she is and that really did infact from the start grabbed the viewer’s
heart. But throughout the film, Erin not only shown her love for her child but also her concern
and sympathy for those afflicted by the hazardous water. She demonstrated a tremendous degree
of care, love, and justice that other lawyers seem to forget since she was motivated to serve
everyone and to honor her commitment. According to an article I have read "Erin Brockovich is
living proof that an ordinary person can change the world. As a Southern California law clerk,
she spearheaded a successful lawsuit against a major company on behalf of hundreds of people
who had unknowingly been exposed to toxic waste. Her efforts inspired the Oscar-winning
feature film that bears her name, and led her to a successful career as an environmental activist
and public speaker" (My philosophy n.d.). Erin overcame the deceit that harmed the people, even
with no little background expertise in law. The director successfully achieved the message being
portrayed by the movie, to stand up to what it is right, even if at times it may seem hopeless, to
value one another to have rights justice for all.
In conclusion, the movie was definitely worth the watch, it can capture your heart and
also inspire you to do great and be great. It shows that anything can be possible you have enough
passion, determination and love with you.
