INSTITUTIONAL PERSPECTIVE IN UNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY

- Community have mechanism for coordinating values,


goals and action of its individual members. Social
institution performs this function.
- Social institution arise from voluntary shared
agreements among individuals that generally also
shape their behavior as collective.

- Institution are established rules that ensure the


regular and predictable behavior of actors within
community.
- In broad terms “Institution” are categorized as
FORMAL and INFORMAL

- FORMAL INSTITUTION:

are explicitly communicated, embodied in legally codified documents or


facts.
- IN FORMAL INSTITUTION

- are practices, norms, tradition, culture, conduct and beliefs system of community.
These are not codified or written, but are nonetheless embedded in communities,
operating due to the interactive process of preference exchanges and social
expectations that occur therein.
CIVIL SOCIETY PERSPECTIVE

The term civil society conventionally refers to a political community of
organized group operating within the authoritative parameter of the state.
From the view of the politics, it is distinguished from the state to broadly
refer to organizations that are private, autonomous from the government
and which are in pursuit of advocacies, causes and goals. It is an aggregate
of active group and organizations such as business, organized interest group
and clubs.

- Non-Government Organization:(NGO’s) and Peoples Organizations (PO’s)
common examples of civil society organizations. These organizations
actively pursue political and social development goals through a variety of
actions and strategies. A fundamental characteristic of these organization is
the voluntary nature of its membership with emphasis on citizen
participation.

ORGANIC PERSPECTIVE:

An organic perspective of community refers to local or grassroot group within a
particular locale that are driven and organized because of community issues and
concern. They are referred as “Grassroot” because of their local and capacity in building
characteristics. It is generally conceptualized as the formation of neighborhood
organization, rural or urban convened to pursue local development goals or address
particular issues such as crime prevention, environmental protection or waste
management.

OF COMMUNITY

- Individual create situations and opportunities that allow them
to interact within one another and form social relationship and
groups within a community. Their relations and human
connections are shape by the places and meaningful spaces
where they exist.

INTERELATIONSHIP:

- Individuals associate with other individuals


through their commonalities in attribute,
sentiments, histories and experiences and
experiences. This associations are referred to
as “Interrelationship”.

INTEREALTIONSHIP:

- Interrelationship can be facilitated through, familial relation,


affinities or feeling of kinship and social network
- Families and Family network have been figured as dominant
aspect of Filipino communities. Interrelationships in the
communities are said to have typically involved through
networks of blood relations. And families or what is known as
the “Filipino Extended Family”

ORGANIZATION:

Interconnected individuals strengthen their bonds and
form organizations. Each individual takes on the set of
roles or task in organizations in pursuit of goals and
interest. Organizational structures vary in forms.
Example of these are association, club and local
government agencies.

- Organizations serves as initiators of community
actions. They are also considered instrumental in
operationalizing the goals, objectives and interest of
the community. Since organization are purposefully
created and constructed to perform several functions
and task. Their actions shape the conditions and lives
of community members.
