Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences introduces the applied social sciences of

counseling’s, social work, and communication, which draw their foundation from the theories and

principles of psychology, sociology, anthropology, and other social sciences.

DIASS provides opportunities to explore, apply, and experience social sciences theories and

methodologies in real-life settings through the practice of three applied social science disciplines of

communication, social work, and counseling.

Applied Social Sciences explores systematic and evidence-based study of the social world,

encompassing all of the political, economic, legal, technological and cultural ideas, structures and

processes that humans create to live together as a society. It is important because its study helps us to

gain knowledge of the society we live in. Generally, Social Science focus on the relationships among

individuals in society. Discipline and Ideas in Social Sciences (DISS)In previous semester, we

discussed about Discipline and Ideas in Social Sciences whereas we discuss the branches and its

subfields. In Social Science it is more on to the discovering of facts about humans and other social

animals. I have learned that Social Science studies the historical, cultural, sociological, psychological,

and the political forces that shape the actions of individuals and their impact on society. The different

disciplines that we have discussed under social sciences all help in providing a better understanding

and appreciation of the complex issues that face society. These disciplines are Anthropology, the

study of ancient societies and their cultural tradition. Demography, the study of human population.

Economics, the study of the efficient allocation of scarce resources in order to satisfy unlimited

human needs and wants. Geography, the study of interaction between the natural environment and the

people living int. Linguistics, the scientific study of language History, the study of the recorded past.

Political Science, the study of power, politics and government. Psychology, the scientific study of

behavior and mental processes. Sociology, the scientific study of the society as a whole. We also

discussed about the different approaches of Social Science whereas it provides an introduction to the

dominant approaches and ideas in the social sciences. It identifies the key ideas and assumptions as
well as the key theoretical and methodological issue associated with each approach. These approaches

are Rational Choice Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, Structural-functionalism, Institutionalism,

Human Environment System Approach, Psychoanalysis, Hermeneutic-phenomenology, Marxism and

Feminist Theory. In conclusion, the main reason why it is important to study the social sciences is

because the knowledge of the social sciences can help us improve our societies. By studying social

science, we are becoming better informed about how societies should be put together. Studying social

sciences can provide us with so many important answers and observations that may help improve the

understanding of our lives, and thus help us to improve our interactions to each other we have a lot of

AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY, WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO MAKE IT A

BETTER PLACE & WORTH LIVING

As a member of our community, what I can do is encourage my Barangay to clean and fix our
environments, help clean up to avoid disease.

I can also be a way to encourage our youth to study and not be imprisoned in bad work, convince
them to finish for the next future.

As a member of our Barangay let's help our Captain to keep our Barangay organized and free of
trouble.

I will also be active in our Barangay and what our Barangay wants to do and we will support.
Can we lead them in planting trees and fixing our Barangay so they stay away from other vices?

It is also possible to create a project for those who cannot eat three times a day and a symposium for
mothers/fathers who do not know how to work.
