If one thing is certain it is that people have increasingly high beauty standards, which makes
people, in some cases, go to extremes to look better. However, what factors influence people
enough to go to those extremes?

One reason would be the insanely high beauty standards imposed by society, majorly seen in
social media. These standards are not directly imposed, but, because of the content that we
are regularly exposed to, we are leaded to believe that the extreme bodies of the models and
other socialy declared “atractive people” are what we are supposed to look like and that we
need to be pretier, more makeup or even do plastic surgery, like most famous people are now
doing.

Another reason would be the advertisments of makeup, perfume or clothes. In those, models
and celebreties, which basically all had some surgery or are just overly beautiful. This may lead
to body dismorfia or people thinking that’s the beauty standard. One example of something
that may happen is a girl or a boy sees those advertisements and begins to develop body
dismorfia. If they start to hang out with someone that developed extreme body standards
through the same adertisements, the person’s body dismorfia may begin to itensify.

In conclusion, although both reason may be major, the first one is harder as many people seem
to believe that our apearence determines how popular we can become in society.
