ANIMAL VOLUNTEER

Woman: So Nathan, you’re a volunteer in an animal welfare organisation. What do you

do to help animals?

Boy: Well, I go every weekend to look after homeless animals, mostly dogs. I also go to
primary schools with a few other volunteers to talk to children about the responsibility of
keeping a pet.

Woman: So do many people have problems with their pets?

Boy: Not exactly problems, but they don’t know how to look after their health and they
often give them the wrong food, for example, chocolate.

Woman: Do people really give their pets chocolate?

Boy: Oh, yes: rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, dogs. It happens all the time. And it’s very
bad for them. They can have serious health problems as a result.

Woman: So do you have any pets yourself?

Boy: Yes, of course. My family has a dog and two cats and I have a beautiful snake called
Arnie. My sister also has two guinea pigs.

Woman: That’s a lot of pets, but I don’t know if I would call a snake beautiful. Anyway,
thanks for talking to us today, Nathan.
