Lesson Plan No_____

Class: 6th Date:27-02-2023

Subject: Science Duration: 30min
Topic: Chemical & Physical Change Class Strength: 22students

1. Specific Objectives:
Students will be able to
• identify chemical and physical changes around us.
• understand the relationship of chemical substances and their properties,
• Differentiate between Chemical and physical change.
• Use chemical and physical changes in life.

2. Teaching Resources:
Piece of paper
▪ Lemon
▪ Milk
▪ Pictures
3. Classroom Management Strategy:
Teacher will state the following rules to the class and give appreciation certificate
to the students upon following these rules.

4. Procedure:
Initiating Activity: (5min)
The teacher will demonstrate a couple of activities in front of the students to give them the
concept of changes happening around them, for example, the teacher will switch off the
fan, open the window, close the book, pull the chair from its position, and erase the
whiteboard. Next, the teacher will ask students what has happened around them. Do they
feel any difference? That’s how the teacher will tell students that Changes keep on
happening around us.
Development: (20 min)
The pupil-teacher will give examples in the following way:
How many of you are fond of ice cream?
What happens when you don't keep the ice cream in the refrigerator?
Can you recover the ice cream into its original solid form?
Now the teacher will describe Physical Change:
Physical change is a chance where the physical properties of matter change. A change of state of
matter, changes in colour, odour, shape, and size. It is a temporary change. It is a reversible
change
The teacher will give example and take a piece of paper and fold it into the plane.
Now the teacher will ask student can you change it back to its original form? Here, the shape of
the substance has changed and it's reversible. now cut the pieces of paper into two equal parts.
The teacher will ask students: what difference can you see from its original form? here, the size
has changed but the properties of the paper remain the same.
The teacher will explain the concept of chemical change with some examples in the following
way: If burn the piece of paper, what will happen? Is it a physical change? This is an example of
chemical change The change in which new substances are formed and new substances show
entirely different properties from the original ones is called a chemical change.
➢ The teacher will show the milk and lemon experiment. When we add lemon to milk, they
can produce curd.
➢ The teacher will ask any two students to come in front of the classmates and indicate the
difference between physical and chemical changes with the help of pictures. Students will
differentiate the examples Physical Change Cookie crumbles, melting butter, Chemical
Change Fried egg, rotten fruits.

Recap: (2 minutes)

Physical changes only change the appearance of a substance, but not its chemical
composition. Chemical changes cause a substance to change into an entirely substance
with the new chemical formula.
Evaluation: (3 minutes)

Write” P” in front of physical change & “C” in front of chemical change
