Introduction

Paid, Owned, and Earned Media, or POEM, is a marketing approach used by specialists in digital
marketing to create social media marketing strategies. It is a strategy for advertising a good or service
that considers how the best combination of media outlets may draw in new clients, build ties with
current ones, and move a company closer to its long-term objectives of expansion and success.
Paid media
"Paid Media," the most typical class of marketing channel, is the first component of the POEM
structure. Paid media includes any form of content that needs payment. One of the quickest, most
effective, and straightforward ways to measure a direct return on investment is through paid media.
But the service provider often has control over paid media. It is also frequently the least reliable
medium for reaching your target audience.
Owned Media
The second component of the POEM architecture is "Owned media." It describes any media outlet
that a company owns and controls. One of the most prevalent examples are corporate or brand-owned
websites, blogs, newsletters, social media pages (such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and
podcasts. The material and what appears on the website are entirely in your control, and you may
regulate them in accordance with your consumer base.
Earned Media
Earned media, as the term implies, refers to the exposure and notoriety a brand obtains as a
consequence of other people discussing it, talking about it themselves, or as a result of natural
publicity and awareness. Additionally, it is the only media platform inside the POEM framework that
doesn't call for commercial investment. Through third-party channels like social media, public
relations (PR), and referrals, earned media enables you to engage, connect, and communicate with
your audience.
