BASIC CONCEPT OF VALUES
CORE VALUES

• A person’s or organization’s fundamental belief. These guiding principles


dictate conduct and can assist individual to know the distinction between
right and wrong.
• It assist organizations by establishing an unwavering guide to determine if
they are on the correct track and fulfill their objectives.
• Values is essential because they assist us to grow. They assist us build the
future that we want to experience.
FILIPINO VALUES SYSTEM

• Relates to the set of values or the value system that has historically been
held by majority of Filipinos in their life.
• Involves the distinctive combination of coherent ideologies, moral codes,
ethical procedures, cultural etiquette and private values promoted by
Philippine society.
• Rooted in private alliance systems particularly those based on kinship,
duty, friendship, religion and business interactions.
PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATION OF FILIPINO
VALUES
• Focused on preserving social harmony, mainly driven by a group
willingness to be accepted.
• Filipinos desire harmony, not only in interpersonal relationship but also
with nature and religion.
• Harmonize the object and the subject while keeping both as distinct at the
same time.
MODEL OF FILIPINO VALUES

1. Exogenous Model or the Foreign Model – “a legal and formal model”


defined as international model
2. Indigenous Model or the Traditional Model – “ traditional and non
formal” model or guide, which is deeply integrated in the Filipino
subconscious.
STRUCTURES AND ELEMENTS OF FILIPINO VALUES

• Surface Value - Hiya (ownership/dignity), Pakikisama (companionship/esteem),


Utang na loob (gratitude/solidarity)- readily seen and appreciated by Filipinos.
These 3 values are branches of Filipino Personality Core Values – “kapwa”
• It implies totality referring to the society or not doing the stuff alone.
• 2 types of Kapwa
• Ibang tao (other people)
• Hindi ibang tao (not other people)
FIVE CORE FILIPINO VALUES

1. Mapagpasalamat – based on the aspirations of filipino to pamumuhay (life), and


pananalig sa Diyos at Kapwa (God and People Faith)
2. Matatag – resilient
3. Masigasig – we do everything we can to get it.
4. Mapagmalasakit - Checking the situation of each other and talking about the
life of each other.
5. Magalang – demonstrate our respect and love to erderly and other people.
