Winter Semester 2019-20
(C & K Batches)

CW- 04 APPLICATION OF LINES

Date & Time 05.07.2021 1.30 - 3.30pm Two marks each

1. A picture frame 2m wide and 1m tall is resting on horizontal wall railing makes 35 deg
inclination with wall. It is attached to a hook in the wall by two strings. The hook is 1.5m above
the wall railing. Determine length of each chain and true angle between them. Use a scale of
1:50 for drawing.

2. Guy ropes of two poles fixed at 4.5m and 7.5m above ground are attached to a corner of a
building 15m high, makes 30 deg and 45 deg inclinations with ground respectively. The poles
are 20 m apart. Determine by drawing their projections, length of each rope and distance of
poles from building if the poles are equidistant from the building. Use a scale of 1:200
3. A cameraman standing on top of a 50 m hill is filming a tiger T located at due North-West of
the hill. He also observes a Deer D at 600 East of North. The Tiger and Deer are at ground
level, with angles of depression of 300 and 500 respectively when viewed by the Cameraman.
Using orthographic projections of points and lines determine the distance between the Tiger
and the Deer. Use scale of 1:100
4. Two pegs A and B are fixed in each of the two adjacent side walls of the rectangular room 3m
x 4m sides. Peg A is 1.5m above the floor. 1.2m from the longer side wall and is protruding
0.3m from the wall. Peg B is 2m above the floor, 1m from the other side wall and protruding
0.2m from the wall. Find distances between the ends of the two pegs. Also find the height of
the roof if the shortest distance between peg A and center of the ceiling is 2.5m. Use scale of
1:50
5. A straight road going uphill from a point A due east to another point B is 4km long and has a
slope of 25 deg. Another straight road from B due 30 deg east of north to a point C is also 4km
long but going downward and has a slope of 15 deg. Find the length and slope of the straight
road connecting A and C. Use scale 1:100,000.
