QUIZ 2 (Length systems)

Work in base groups to solve the exercises using as a guide the example and the conversion tables given. Remember to
include the process in a separate sheet of paper.

METRIC SYSTEM IMPERIAL SYSTEM IMPERIAL TO METRIC SYSTEM

1. Convert the following metric system units of length:

Example: 14.5 decimeters (dm) to decameters (dam):
You should divide 14.5 by 10 twice, so 14. 5 ÷ 10 ÷ 10 = 0. 145. The result is 0.145 dam.
a. 15.4 decameters (dam) to centimeters (cm) b. 150000 millimeters (mm) to meters (m) c. 40 centimeters (cm) to hectometers (hm)

2. Convert the following imperial system of length:

Example: 5 miles (mi) to feet (ft):
Yo should multiply by 1760 and then by 3, so 5 × 1760 × 3 = 26400. The result is 26400 feet.
a. 144 feet (ft) to yards (yd) b. 13563 inches (in) to miles (mi) c. 1 mile (mi) to feet (ft)

3. Compare the following units of length using the symbols ≤ or ≥.

You should first convert the values to a common unit. Remember that the "small" end always points to the smaller number, like this:

Example: 14 millimeters ______ 5 centimeters:

You should convert one amount to the other unit in order to compare them. You could convert 14 mm to centimeters. 14 ÷ 10 = 1. 4.
So,14 millimeters is the same as 1.4 cm. Then 4 millimeters ≤5 centimeters.
a. 560 centimeters ______ 3 meters b. 460 hectometers ______4.5 kilometers c. 56 feet ______ 18 yards.

4. Convert the following units from metric to imperial system and back.
Example: 4.1 feet to meters:
As 1 foot is 0.3048 meters, we multiply 4. 1 × 0. 3048 = 1. 24968 meters.
a. 14 feet to meters b. 5.4 yards to meters c. 254 centimeters to inches.
