AGEN 3102 – Agricultural Mechanics II: Farm Mechanization

Laboratory Exercise No. 2 INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES

Name: Jhovet F. Sinahon Date Performed:

Course and Year: BAT 3-A Date Submitted:

Introduction

Diesel and Gasoline are important to the Agriculture because the engine will need a
diesel or gasoline to operate it. “Diesel fuel is refined from crude oil and from biomass
materials. One of the fuels that Rudolf Diesel originally considered for his engine was
vegetable seed oil, an idea that eventually contributed to biodiesel production and use
today”. Before getting into what makes these engines different, it helps to know what
the difference between diesel and gas fuel is.

Objectives

1. To differentiate gasoline and diesel engines; and

2. To be able to discuss how power is produced in a 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.

Methodology

In an inner combustion engine (ICE), the ignition and combustion of the gas takes place
in the engine itself. The engine then partly converts the strength from the combustion to
work. The engine includes a hard and fast cylinder and a transferring piston

Results and Discussion

Gasoline is blended with air, compressed via way of means of pistons and ignited via
way of means of sparks from spark plugs. The air is compressed first, after which the
gasoline is injected. Because air heats up while it is compressed, the gasoline ignites.
Has no spark plug that intakes air and compresses it; as an alternative it injects the
gasoline immediately into the combustion chamber (direct injection). It is the warmth of
the compressed air that lighting fixtures the gasoline in a diesel engine.
Gasoline injection can arise ways: a port injection gadget or a carburetor. The port
injection gadget injects air into the gasoline proper earlier than the consumption stroke.
The gasoline is injected immediately into the cylinder. In order to supply the first-rate
mist of gasoline vital for the system to work, the injectors should be capable of face up
to excessive temperatures and a massive quantity of pressure.
Has to ensure it in no way reaches the self-ignition temperature throughout the
compression stroke due to the fact this may probably damage the engine. As a result, a
fueloline engine has to maintain a low compression ratio. Doesn’t have gasoline within
side the aggregate throughout the consumption stroke, it could compress the air extra
and feature a better compression ratio. A better compression ratio equals higher
gasoline efficiency.
Conclusion

The ignition process for a gasoline engine uses spark plugs, which also make it easier for
the fuel to burn easily inside the combustion chamber. The ignition process for a diesel
engine is different. Despite not having spark plugs, diesel engines nevertheless ignite
their fuel via higher compression. Furthermore, it works in their favor that diesel
engines are more powerful than gasoline ones. This is due to the fact that it only
completes one complete spin before turning on to ignite the compression in its engine.
Diesel engines use more fuel per revolution of power than gasoline engines do, despite
having two power revolutions. Now that we know more about the difference between
diesel and gasoline engines . Also the 2 stroke and 4 stroke, we should have an easier
time deciding which one will suit  needs of an engine. When you are ready to pick out
your new vehicle, consult a professional to take a look at all of your gas and diesel
options with a professional.
