The basic construction and operation principles of marine diesel engine including:

Marine Diesel Engine, the heat engine cycle, the working fluid, the function of heat
engine and the efficiency are the discussion of this topic.

The video 1st showed the diagram, the engine cycle has a hot reservoir and cold
reservoir, heat naturally flows from hot to cold, a heat engine absorbs a specific number
per cycle and of course the cold it also releases or expelled a specific number to the
environment. In order the system to maintain its temperature it has to release amount of
heat that corresponds to the expected amount of the engine, So that it can maintain its
efficient work.

The efficiency or the thermal efficiency of an engine it operates at around 30% to

35%. About 65-70% is rejected as waste heat without being converted into useful work,
i.e. work delivered to wheels. In general, engines using the Diesel cycle are usually
more efficient, than engines using the Otto cycle.

A cycle of diesel engine it operates either two-stroke or four stroke the difference
of these two are, the 2-stroke cycle creates more torque at a higher RPM, while a 4-
stroke engine creates a higher torque at a lower RPM. In a 2-stroke engine, all five
functions of the cycle are completed in only two strokes of the piston (or one revolution
of the crankshaft). In a 4-stroke engine, the five functions require four strokes of the
piston (or two revolutions of the crankshaft). So basically the 2 stroke engine much
faster than the 4 stroke engine, I must say that 2 stroke is the best engine cycle must
use.

Diesel engines are a class of internal combustion engine in which the fuel is
burned internally and the combustion products are used as the working fluid. A small
amount of diesel fuel is injected at the end of the compression stroke into the cylinder
where the fuel auto-ignites. We all know that products of combustion are used as the
working fluid but we have also a combustion process that is called (SI) spark ignite
engines found in the majority of today's automobiles in which the premixed fuel-air
mixture is ignited by an electric spark, diesel engines are characterized by a
spontaneously initiated combustion process where the ignition is brought about by very
high temperature compressed air
