METHODOLOGY

Where?

The researchers investigated the community of Garlands. The researchers thought that the

community of Garlands would be best as that community has a lot of farmers.

How?

The collection of data was by the process of questionnaires. There were 14 questions on the

questionnaires. The collection of the data was done by one member of the group, who went to

the in their protective gear and asked the question and the farmers answered. Pictures were also

taken of the farms.

When?

This study began on November 26, 2020 and ended on March 3, 2021.

PRESENTATION OF DATA

The pie chart above shows the percentage of the size farm. It is shown that that most person have

½ acre of land and ¼ acre. This is a problem in this community because there are persons who

want to farm a lot of different crops, but they cannot because there is no space on their farms.

Whether the farmer’s plants a lot of different crop, they would have to plant a small amount each

time and they won’t be able to make any money at the market.

Title: TABLE SHOWING THE NUMBER OF PERSONS WHO USE THE SAME TOOL ON
THEIR FARM.

Tools used Number of persons

Machete 19
Pick axe 1
Fork 17
Hoe 2
The table above shows the tools that persons use on their farms. As is shown in the table most

persons use tools that have to be used with the hands. These farmers do not have the capital to

buy the big machines that are used on the large scale farms, so these farmers have to use their

hands each day they go to the farm to get work done.

Title: TABLE SHOWING WHERE FARMERS GET THEIR WATER
SUPPLY
WATER SUPPLY NUMBER OF PERSONS
River 4
Spring 1
Rainfall 19
Buy from trucks 0
The table above shows where each person gets their water to supply their farms. As shown in the

table most farmers get their supply from the rainfall. For most farmers it would be hard for them

to go to the river or the spring for water, so they have to wait until the rain falls to supply their

animals and crops. As is shown it is not easy for farmers with no capital to buy water from a

truck. For farmers to wait for the rain to fall it would be difficult for them, so when the rainfall

they have to catch them in drums to serve until next time.

6
The line graph above shows the number of persons with the same labour. As shown in the graph

most farmers have to use day workers for their labour on their farm. Having to hire people as day

workers will cost a lot of money, but they still have to do it because they have no else.

7
The bar graph above shows the number of persons who take the same road to get to their farms.

As shown in the graph, most farmers have to take muddy roads to get to their farms. Having to

take muddy roads to their farm can cause a lot of damage to their crop and also their body. For

example, they are carrying a heavy basket of crops through the muddy road and they fall and hurt

their back; this can cause them to not be able to work for a long while. The other roads have their

inconveniences too.

Title: TABLE SHOWING THE NUMBER OF FARMERS WHO RAISE ANIMALS

WITH TEIR CROPS.

Type of animals Number of persons

Pigs 2

Cows 1

Goats 12

Chicken 6

None 1

The table above shows the number of persons who raise animals with the crops. Most farmers

have to raise animals and sell to help maintain their farms. But just as how they need the money

to buy products to maintain the crops, they have to do the same with the animals. Some of these

animals will need some medicine that will be very expensive and not all farmers have a very

good capital to buy these medicines. In that community it is a norm for farms to raise animals

with their crop but not all animals. As shown in the table, goats are mostly raised in the

community to help with their income.

9
CONCLUSION

It can be concluded that the farmers of the community Garland encounters a lot of problems as

peasant farmers. The main problems these farmers encounter are: their labour, the roads they

have to take to get to their farms, the animals they raised with the crops, the size of their farms,

and the type of tools used and their water supply.
