    The Ibiobio are an ethnic group located in parts of West Africa including southeastern Nigeria, equitoral Guinea, Cameroun and Ghana. They have numerous secret societies, most notably the male Ekpo society which glorifies ancestors and conducts ceremonies where non-initiated individuals interfering could face death. The Ibiobio created masks for various purposes like the Idiok for fallen spirits, Mfon for saved souls, and masks of Anang embodying beautiful women. They also use Ibiobio puppets in theatrical performances every seven years by the Ekpo tribe.

    IBIOBIO ART

    Ibiobio are ethnic group located in West Africa, in southeastern of Nigeria (Akwa ibom), equitoral
    guinea, Cameroun and Ghana. Secret societies are numerous among the Ibiobio, the Ibiobio glorify the
    ancestors, thus, the male society Ekpo (meaning ghost) is mainly concerned with this cult. If the non-
    initiated person interferes with the ceremonies, he is liable to death.

    The ibiobio created many masks such as:

    The IDIOK for fallen spirit

    MFON for saved soul

    The MASK OF ANANG for embodying beautiful women

    The IBIOBIO PUPPETS are used by EKON TRIBE every seven years through theatrical performances

    THE MASQUE IBIOBIO, this mask is made up of two masks, flat, on which standout similar faces.
