War on Waste
A Good Place to Relax

Do you know a place where you can stroll
around and relax? I know a place. It is located along the
shorelines in the town of Inopacan. It is the Inopacan
Baywalk.
Inopacan Baywalk is a seaside promenade and
an attraction of Inopacan before going to the famous
Cuatro Islas. Lanipao trees are planted along the area
where people can get a shade from when it grows
bigger. Series of lamp posts were also aligned to
brighten the night. For those who want to have their
meals along the shore, grilling areas and tables to match
are also available. Concrete benches are also provided
where people can sit freely and have a lazy chat during
late afternoons and at night. You can also see locals
taking brisk walk or strolling everyday.
Sea breeze makes everyone feel cool and want
to stay and marvel the scenery that is, the sea. The clear
and unstained seawater seems inviting everyone to take
a swim. Local and international tourists who came to
visit the four islands compliments the cleanliness and
orderliness of the baywalk. 

“A healthy education is a healthy
environment.” In connection to this, the ICS promotes
and advocates total cleanliness inside and outside the
school premises. It is an extensive campaign on
minimizing or controlling non-biodegradable wastes
such as plastics, junk food wrappers and ice water/ ice
candy wrappers. As much as possible, these garbages
should be properly and orderly segregated according to
its trash containers.
The Inopacan Central School Staff and
students took a rightful step on minimizing the solid
wastes in the environment. Both decaying and non-
decaying will be recycled. This is also one way of
implementing discipline to the students as far as
cleanliness is concerned. The first one is recycling the
used papers. The used papers will be soak in water for
two hours, mold it into small balls and let it dry. We
call this balls “paper briquettes”, a good substitute for
charcoal used for fuel. The non-decaying wastes such
as the plastic wrappers, were cut into small pieces and
made into stuffs like pillow sewn in different shapes of
transparent plastic cases. Some are put in a plastic
bottle for decorations. Other plastic containers such as
powder soap and fabric conditioners were sewn into
bags and envelopes.
This way, the students do not learn only how
to recycle usable waste materials but are also trained
on how to maintain cleanliness in the surrounding.
They will also learn that being clean is being healthy.
