Plant nutrition
Label the picture with the words in the box. Which process does it show?

raw sap – oxygen – sunlight – elaborated sap – carbon dioxide – water and minerals
How do plants make their own food? Order the sentences.

The roots transport the raw sap up the stem of the plant to its leaves.

The chlorophyll in the leaves collects solar energy.

The raw sap combines with carbon dioxide to create elaborated sap and releases oxygen into the air.

The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil.

The stem carries the elaborated sap to all the parts of the plant.

Plant respiration
Plants absorb oxygen from the air and expel carbon dioxide as waste. This happens during the day
and at night. However, in the daytime during photosynthesis, they release more oxygen than they
need. This is how plants sustain life on the planet.
