⦁ One of the most historic locations in the Philippines is Calamba in the
province of Laguna, in which Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero and the first Asian nationalist, was born and
raised.
> Calamba, Laguna is a first-class municipality in a place wherein the rich family enjoyed the materials
progress growth by the opening at the Philippines in the world of trade.
> There is no doubt that José Rizal left a significant legacy on Philippine history, particularly in the
Laguna province's City of Calamba. His sacrifice and patriotism are still felt in this place today.

(RIZAL’S HOUSE)
⦁ On June 19, 1861, José Rizal was born in a two-story Spanish colonial house in Calamba, Laguna. The
Mercado’s family rented the land which was owned by Dominican friars and they built their house.
However, Rizal's original home was destroyed during World War II.

Pilipinas para ipatupad ang kolonisasyon.
> And Jose Rizal’s father who named Francisco Rizal was an “inquilino” a laborer who rented a huge land
from the Dominican (inquilino ay pangkat na binuo ng mga tagapangasiwa ng lupa ng mga panginoong
may lupa)
>It is said that Mercado's family and the other tenants were expelled from the hacienda, and their home
was eventually destroyed.

(INSIDE OF RIZAL’S HOUSE) NOW LET’S TAKE A LOOK INSIDE OF RIZAL’S HOUSE
⦁ The interior design of Rizal's house is traditional, with narra flooring, capiz shell windows, and a red
ceramic roof.
⦁ The ground floor of the house was originally designed as a horse stable.
On the ground floor, you'll find the servant's room, workroom, and food supply room. Currently, it
contains of memorabilia of Jose Rizal’s life, from his childhood days up to adulthood, writings, certificates
and so on.
⦁ The second floor is historically where the family’s rooms, library, dining area, and bathrooms are.
>They had a vast private library home of 1,000 and more books
>Rizal's house has three bedrooms on the upper level, one for him and his brother Paciano, another for
his nine sisters, and the master bedroom, which has a four-poster bed and is where Jose Rizal was born.
> They also owned a carriage (karwahe) and horses (which were symbols of wealth during those times)
> So pag may karwahe ka at horses ibig sabihin mayaman ka o mayaman ang iyong pamilya.
