The truth

One day in front of D.A.V Public School, there’s Maya "the newcomer" and her mother "the cleaning
service". They arrived at school just now. Actually, no one knows that Maya’s mother is a cleaning
service at D.A.V Public School. Maya prefers not to tell it because she doesn't want everyone making
fun of her because of it.

(Standing, facing one another)

MAYA(12 years, hobbies- art and craft and reading): Mom, I wanna go to school now. See you in
the afternoon, Mom

NANDA(Maya’s mother)(30 years): Okay, Maya. It's your starting day, promise me you won't make
any problems.

Maya: Ok mom, I promise.

(Maya greets her mother and moves towards her class, Riya and Aarav see Maya talking to her
mother)

SCENE 2

(In Classroom)

(Riya and Aarav are having a discussion)

AARAV(12 years): Isn't that the new kid? What is she doing with that cleaning service?

RIYA(12 Years): For god's sake, I don't know.

Aarav: Maybe she's her mother.

Riya: Wow, hot gossip. That new kid's mom is a cleaning service.

SCENE 3

(Durning lunch break)

Riya: let’s bully her

Aarav: yup!

(Riya and Aarav walk next to Maya)

Riya: So, your mother is a cleaning service, huh?

Maya: What

Aarav: Hahaha, don't you feel ashamed because of her?

Maya: No way, she's my mother. I would not feel ashamed.

(Ananya enters)

ANANYA(13 YEARS): Hey, what's going on? What's going on? Why is it so noisy?

Aarav: Hey listen! That freshman's mother is a cleaning service in here.

Ananya: Really? What an embarrassing thing!"

Maya: Is that a problem for you?

(After lunch break near the handwashing corner )

(Maya is looking very sad)

(A few minutes later, Luthfi comes)

Luthfi (13 YAERS):"What are you doing? The bell is already ringing. You should go back to your own
classroom"

Ananya: What's going on dude? Got any problems?

Maya: Luthfi, they're bullying me!

Luthfi: What? Bullying? Don't be so childish guys, you're now in junior high school. Don't be like this.

Ananya: Because you're a leader in our class doesn't mean you can regulate and control us.

Luthfi: No, I'm not like that. Bullying is not good you know? I tell you. You should go and talk to her,
tell her that all of you feel sorry.

Riya: You only say that because you like her, don't you?

Ananya: Luthfi likes Maya, Luthfi likes Maya

Luthfi: Wai...WHAT? Well, maybe she's kinda cute. I admit that. (Looking at Maya, Maya is shocked).
But more importantly, you shouldn't do it! Why are you bullying her?

Aarav: Of course because her mother is a cleaning service.

Maya: Don't bully me. What's the matter if my mother is a cleaning service?

Ananya: "The matter? Of course, because this school is only for a high-class students. Students like
you shouldn't be here.

Luthfi: A school is a place for study guys. It doesn't matter what jobs our parents have."

(All kids gather around Maya and her Mother to apologize for their behavior)

Riya: We are really very Sorry Maya and aunty

Aarav: We should have not behaved like that with you Maya. Now we know that we should never
disrespect and bully someone.

Ananya: Yes absolutely right, I am also sorry.

Maya: It’s Okay!

(All the kids hug Maya and become her friends)
