Using SAS® Viya® for Learners with This Case

Study
In this case study, you perf orm tasks using SAS Viya for Learners, an external sof tware environment
that is linked f rom the course. The sof tware opens in a browser window. This case study is written
using SAS Visual Analytics 8.5. SAS Viya f or Learners currently supports SAS Visual Analytics 8.3.
You will be able to complete most of the case study using the earlier version, but some objects and
options are not available, and the documented steps might differ.

Opening SAS Viya for Learners

Note: The pref erred browsers f or SAS Viya f or Learners (in order) are Chrome, Firef ox, or Saf ari. If
you are using a dif ferent browser, we strongly recommend that you stop now and s ig n in t o
the course with one of the recommended browsers.

1. Click Open SAS Viya for Learners to access the sof tware f or the course. The link is located in a
block on the right side of the course page.
2. Sign in with the same email and password that you use to access your SAS training.

Each time that you work in the course, we recommend that you open SAS Viya f or Learners at the
beginning of the session, keep the software window open throughout the session, and then sign out of
SAS Viya f or Learners at the end of the session.

Note: Your work in SAS Viya f or Learners might be deleted af ter 30 days of inactivity.

Loading Data into CAS

SAS Viya f or Learners comes with the data available in your list of data sources. You need to f ind the
MEGACORP2020.sas7bdat table and load it into memory. To do so, f ollow the steps below.
1. From the browser window, sign in to SAS Viya f or Learners.
SAS Drive is displayed by default.

2. In the upper lef t corner, click (Show list of applications) and select Explore and Visualize to
access SAS Visual Analytics.
Note: Your list of applications might be different.

Note: Selecting Share and Collaborate returns you to SAS Drive.

3. In SAS Visual Analytics, click New.

4. In the lef t pane, click Data.

5. In the Open Data Source window, click Data Sources.

Note: Your Data Sources listing might be different.

6. Double-click cas-v4e030-default and double-click the YVA85CS f older.
7. Right-click MEGACORP2020.sas7bdat and select Load. When the load is complete, the
MEGACORP2020 CAS table will appear in the Data Sources list and is available f or use in Visual
Analytics.

Note: Your Data Sources listing might be different.

8. Select MEGACORP2020 and click OK to close the Choose Data window. You are now ready to
continue to Part 2.

Results in SAS Viya

SAS Viya is the latest extension of the SAS Platf orm. Due to the distributed nature of this f lexible
computing environment, results f rom different sessions will be similar but likely not identical.
Likewise, the results that you see while working in SAS Viya f or Learners might be dif ferent f rom
the results that appear in the course.
