Q2. What is the significance of operations management in public safety and

national security?

ANSWER:

Operations management is significant to public safety and national security to

transform the mandates/tasks of public safety organizations or military into public
services. It is through Operation Management the business function of an
organization is processed through planning, coordinating, and controlling of the
resources needed to produce products and services meeting public needs or
demands and consequently help in economic growth.

Operation Management provides an efficient transformation. It is critical to the

organization’s effectiveness and efficiency in term of transforming inputs (People,
Material, and Money) into quality of outputs (or to provide better service). An
effective operation management is able to use resources efficiently for the
organization to achieve the optimum desired result. In other term, operational
effectiveness is performing activities well for least possible cost.

Most government agencies in the Philippines, if not all, are facing insufficiency in
terms of resources and the DILG and AFP are not spared to this kind of situation.
However, with higher public expectations and demands for best public service in
order to attain a decent living, the said organizations are maximizing their capabilities
(human resources and logistical resources) to achieve the highest level of
performance in serving the public through effective operation management.

To achieve and sustain operational excellence, it requires vigilant analysis and

cooperation and a pure desire to change as parts of a continual and relentless effort
to improve the organization’s processes. Integration with the other functions of the
organization is also indispensible so that improvement efforts of the organization
compliments or reinforces each to achieve enhanced public satisfaction.
As to conclusion, in public safety realm, a good operation management will
improve public services and consequently help improves the lives of people as well.
In contrast, poor operation management would affect the quality of public service
delivery if not undermine the safety and security of the people and orderliness in the
country as a whole.
