BLINDNESS AND SIGHT

UNSEEN SHADOWS
I wrote this essay to show how important to know the difference between sight and vision
and how it affects most aspects of our lives. First, let’s de ne the terms: Sight and vision are

SEEING AND KNOWING

nouns in which Sight is the ability to see. Vision is the ability to see something that is not

SIGHT AND VISION

there yet. Using your imagination, you can see something that is not seen yet.

In order to read, you must have sight. You cannot see the letters on the page, but you can
touch the letters on the page and try to conclude them into a word. Vision is more of having
a vision for yourself, for your family, and your society. It’s about maintaining a vision for your
life and working towards your goals and dreams.

A person who has a vision, can see beyond the current situations, create a better future for
themselves and the surrounding people. Vision is all about creativity, about having the
ability to be daring and creative.

You can help blind people have a proactive role in society, help them understand the
importance of vision and insight in their daily lives and ours. Help them see how important
it is and how they can make a difference in the world

SIGHT AND VISION
Sight is the ability to see or witness things, but vision is something more than sight. It's about having a vision for yourself
and for your future Vision is all about creativity. When we have a vision for our lives, we can see things differently and be
more creative. We can understand the world around us and create a better tomorrow for ourselves and society.

Sight is a gift that we should appreciate more and learn to use in the best possible way. A person who has a vision, can
see beyond the current situations, create a better future for themselves and the surrounding people. Vision is all about
creativity, about having the ability to be daring and creative.

SEEING AND KNOWING

Seeing and knowing is the major difference between blind people and us. As we can see things and they aren’t able to.
But sight is not the only thing that matters in life, as we need to know how to see with our hearts, not just with our eyes.
And that’s what blind people can do. They can see with their hearts, and that’s what makes them different from us.

Seeing is just a physical process, but knowing is a mental function that allows us to make decisions based on
knowledge and information. Knowing requires the use of the ve senses. Seeing is simply looking at an object or
person.

CLAUDE MONET The water lilies

There are many great people with visual impairments who had great
in uences on millions of people in different decades, I chose to talk
about Claude Monet and his journey with blindness.

Claude Monet was a painter in the impressionist movement, and one of
the most in uential painters of the late 19th and early 20th century. He
was born in Paris in 1840 and quickly became a successful artist. In 1866,
at the age of 24, he created his rst famous painting, 'Water Lilies'.

He had a visual impairment that caused his work to be characterized by a

bright light and a strong contrast of colors. Monet learned that he had
optic neuritis, a serious illness that caused his eyesight to be gradually
worsening.

Monet did not seek medical treatment. Instead, he continued to paint,

and in an attempt to improve his visual impairment, he wore a pair of
dark glasses. Although his vision was still not what it used to be, he was
able to continue painting. However, his eyesight began to worsen again,
and he was forced to stop painting. By 1879, he was totally blind.

Monet had a very interesting life. He was constantly in pain and was
unable to walk or talk. He worked hard to survive, and to get by. he was
able to earn a living by selling his paintings, and he continued to paint
until his death in 1926.

GLOBAL CONTEXTS

Out of the 6 global contexts, I saw that personal and cultural

expressions is the perfect t for this topic, as blindness and
sight is all about expressing yourself and your personality. I
also think that blindness is a whole culture, as people express
their own personal lives and experiences.

As much as identities and relationships may be applied to this

topic too and you will show your identity and yourself to the
world. However it is more about expressing yourself and who
you really are, how you live and how you get through life
struggles with your visual impairment and how you are willing
to affect the society.

Personal and cultural expressions makes people discover and

express ideas, feelings and personalities. It makes them re ect
their personalities and feel more con dent about yourself
