PAMPHLET

DEFINITION
Pamphlet is a single sheet of paper without a hard cover or binding and tell us about detailed
information or arguments on a single subject for the readers.
In general, pamphlet mainly used to informing rather than direct selling. Some kinds of
pamphlets include education, culture, public service, health, campaigns and communicating
organization information.

PURPOSE
Pamphlets are very important because they can give readers a clear message to easily
understand about the information by the images inserted and the summary text written in a
pamphlet. Besides that, pamphlet is cheap to produce and can be distributed easily to the
readers.

HISTORY
Pamphlets first appeared in 1387 under the name 'Pamphilet' or 'panfett'. The name was taken
from the satirical comic that was popular at that time, "Phamphilus, Seu de Amore".
'Phampilus' itself means loved by everyone.
In terms of the form itself, the comic never has more than five panels/pages in the form of
folded leaflets. Since then, leaflets containing information and pictures have been called
pamphlets.
Pamphlets were among the first printed materials, and they were widely used in England,
France, and Germany. The first great age of pamphleteering was inspired by the religious
controversies of the early 16th century.
In France so many pamphlets were issued in support of the Reformed religion that edicts
prohibiting them were promulgated in 1523, 1553, and 1566.
In Germany the pamphlet was first used by the leaders of the Protestant Reformation to
inflame popular opinion against the pope and the Roman Catholic church.
From the 20th century the pamphlet has more often been used for information than for
controversy, chiefly by government departments and learned societies.
