ISTE Educator Standards:
2.1 Educators are always learning and seeking self-
improvement to better student learning while
making use of the technology available. This includes
staying up to date with current or new and different
technology advancements and approaches to
student learning.
2.2 Educators should step up, lead, and take initiative
in teaching others how to use different technology to
improve teaching and student success.
2.3 Educators must positively and responsibly teach
students how to use technology and other digital
tools in a safe and polite manner that promotes a
good learning culture and responsible behavior.
2.4 While always trying to self-improve, educators
also collaborate with others to get another
perspective on what works best. This includes
collaborating with other colleagues, experts and
even students. Educators must also remember to be
polite and be mindful of different cultures when
collaborating with others.
2.5 Educators design authentic digital learning
activities and environments that challenge students
and support independent learning. Use digital
resources to further support student success.
2.6 Educators make learning opportunities and goals
with students using technology to facilitate learning
with it. Foster a creative and learning environment
while keeping students focused on said goals.
2.7 Educators use collective data of student work to
help shape their teaching to help students achieve
learning goals.
ISTE Educator Standards
ISTE Student Standards:
1.1 Student are given the power to demonstrate
what they know and to set goals for what they want
to learn more of when it comes to technology. By
using technology, the students can also be given
feedback that can help them improve their learning
and practice.
1.2 students are to be taught how to be a
responsible and respectable individual online when
not face to face with others. They should be able to
keep private information private, give credit when
credit is due, learn what is right and wrong in the
digital world and be aware of it as well.
1.3 students are to be knowledgeable when using
technology about research strategies and different
sources, how to check the accuracy of the info and
be objective, how to demonstrate the meaning of all
the info and how to apply it to the real world.
1.4 students are to know how to be an innovative
designer by knowing the process for creating ideas
and theories, managing constraints and being able to
create prototypes with technology to be able to solve
open-ended problems.
1.5 students are to be computational thinkers by
knowing how to define specific problems, set data
for the problem and extract the key information from
the data to become algorithmic thinkers and work
with the problem one step at a time.
1.6 students are to be creative and precise when
communicating their ideas and work and keep in
mind the audience that they will be communicating
with. They should be able to use a platform that
works for them to be able to show their creation or
what they want to say and should be original with it.
1.7 students are to use digital tools to learn about
the world around them. Using digital tools, they can
connect with others, see different viewpoints and be
creative with helping the world.

Noted similarities: A similarity found in the standards between both teachers and students is to be proactive in
learning about new technologies. Teachers are to take initiatives when learning and then help guide students
and foster a curious mindset and positive learning culture to help students be proactive in their own learning as
well. Another similarity is collective data. Even though both use it for different purposes, both students and
teachers are to know how to collect data which will help improve the learning for the students. There is also the
promotion of collaboration between both groups. Working together towards a common goal is the best way for
both teachers and students to learn.

Noted differences: A noticeable difference is that teachers are encouraged to lead, whether it be with students
or with other colleagues while student standards focus on the individual learning, unless teachers incorporate it
in their lessons to teach the students how to. Another difference is that the teaching standards depend on the
individual teacher to follow these standards for success while students depend on teachers to show them the
way and guide them through the ever changing landscape of technology.
