William Tyler Berry

March 6, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello to everyone! My name is William Tyler Berry, and I am your child’s 8 th grade U.S. History teacher. I
am looking forward to working with you and your child as we enter their final year in Middle School.

To begin, let me introduce myself a bit! Before discovering I have passion for teaching, I enlisted in the
Marine Corps and served for 6 years. This opened new doors for me and gave me the opportunity to
pursue my degree. I eventually graduated from UTSA with a bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages,
with a focus in Russian and I even obtained a minor in Spanish. This is my first-year teaching here, and I
am excited to be part of this new team with you and your child!

There is a lot of information this year that I must teach. To get through it smoothly and without
interruptions, I have some basic procedures set in place that will help class go smoothly so that learning
can take place. First is that some students will have designated jobs each week to help me keep class
going, such as passing out papers. Responsibilities will rotate so there isn’t only one student helping.
Another is the use of a hand signal, which your child can go over with you, when needing to either use
the restroom or get water so that way it can be addressed quickly. Lastly will be a call and response
system that I put in place. When things get too noisy, I say “eyeballs” and the class gets quiet, looks at
me and responds “click.” It’s a simple method that alerts every student that I need their attention.

My grading scale will use the 0-100 format:

<59 F

60-69 D

70-79 C

80-89 B

90-100 A

All homework assignments will have the due date placed on the assignment itself. They are to be turned
in that day and late work will result in a deduction of 5 points for every day late, unless there is a reason
and given to me on a note with it signed by you, the parent/guardian.

Communication is important and a key element for a successful school year. If you have any questions or
problems, please feel free to contact me via phone through the school or through me email at
iuhiuuoh@gmail.com (work email). If you wish to have a one on one, parent teacher conference, please
also discuss that with me through me email.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Berry
