Question 1 | 25 points

Parts (a) and (b) are independent

(a) A car starts from rest and with constant acceleration achieves a velocity
of 15 m/s when it travels a distance of 200 m rectilinearly. Determine
the acceleration of the car and the time required.

(b) A particle travels in a straight line such that for a short time 2s  t  6s
4
its motion is described by v  ft / s , where a is in ft/s2. If v = 6 ft/s
a
when t = 2 s, determine the particle’s acceleration when t = 3 s.
Question 2 | 30 points

For the figure below:

(a) Determine the horizontal velocity of a tennis ball at A so that it just

clears the net at B.
(b) Find the distance s where the ball strikes the ground.
(c) Determine the velocity of the ball just before striking the ground at C.
Question 3 | 15 points

If end A of the rope moves downward with a speed of 5m/s, determine the
speed of cylinder B.
Question 4 | 30 points

At the instant shown, the bicyclist at A is traveling at 7 m/s around the curve
on the race track while decreasing his speed at 0.7m / s 2 . The bicyclist at B
is traveling at 8.5 m/s along the straight-a-way and increasing his speed at
0.5m / s 2 . At this instant, determine
(a) the relative velocity of A with respect to B.
(b) the relative acceleration of A with respect to B.
