Personal Reflection

1.While making the collage do you dread getting older or look forward to it? Do you see advanced age as a challenge or something to fear? How do you feel about aging?
 Somehow I am afraid of getting older because of the transition I am about to go through, I want to savor my youth as much as I can while I can still walk miles
without having back pain and having an open mind about the world. I find that becoming older is difficult because it brings about a steady physical deterioration
and increases your risk of developing a great number of diseases and ailments. Nevertheless, the wisdom I might acquire together with the lessons I may learn are
two of the reasons why I look forward to growing older as well. Generally, I feel okay that I age because it is something I do not have control over, it is biologically
natural for me to face changes day by day and I accept that whole process.

2.Have you ever cared for an older adult? If so what was that experience like? How do you feel about caring for older adults in your nursing practice?
 Yes, my grandparents lived in a different house from us. For a couple in their 70s, they were both quite independent and in good health. Days before my
grandmother passed away from a cardiac arrest, I was able to provide care for her by feeding her, providing all of her necessities, giving her a massage, taking her
blood pressure, and conversing with her about life. She was someone I had never imagined losing at the time, and her untimely death from our lives was a heart
breaking experience for me. I felt happy at the very least that as a student nurse I was able to give back to her, to the person who guided me through my darkest
moments. It is just devastating that I was not able to say goodbye until her very last moment of life. In caring for older adults in the hospital, I feel happy and
fulfilled because old adults they are the most delicate and most grateful people in the healthcare setting, for me its like I am providing care to my own
grandparents.

3.What do you think of nurses working in nursing homes? Have you ever considered a career in gerontology?
 I believe that nurses who work in nursing homes are highly resilient and have big hearts because the majority of elderly people are left alone by their own families,
and the nurses fill this void by giving them the respect and care they need. I think working as a nurse is a great opportunity because you get to help people who
are in need of care and love while also earning a respectable salary. Nurses essentially handle everything from personal hygiene to medication administration.
Given that I am a small person and that the majority of adults have mobility issues, I have not given a career in gerontology much thought. However, as technology
advances, I may do so in the future.

4. What can you say about caring for an older adult?

 To be honest, it's a difficult endeavour, but if you love what you're doing, you'll never find it difficult. You will meet people from various walks of life, and they will
have inspiring tales to share from which you can learn. As you show them love and care, which they are unable to return, God diligently blesses you with greater
things. For me, taking care of an older citizen is an opportunity to grow spiritually and improve my nursing abilities.
