ACTIVITY 1:

1. How do you feel about aging? Do you dread getting older, or look forward to it? Do you see
advanced age as a challenge or something to fear?
Aging is a gradual, continuous process of natural change that begins in early adulthood.
So, aging is a unique feeling for everyone, therefore, my feeling as an adult is that I feel
smarter, I feel older, and I know myself better. Yes, I expect this because aging is
something we have to enjoy and after a while suffer. I feel good about aging because the
time I spend in this world gives me experiences, faith, friends, and memories. Though
age is just a number, so spending my life on things that interest me most it enriches my
life and gives me a different perspective on things. And I see advanced age as a challenge
because every life of an individual has challenges, as an individual, we must overcome
them and not be afraid of them. Furthermore, from the moment we are born, aging
begins. Aging does not stop until the time we die. Acceptance of this fact is not only an
element of maturity but also a portal to wisdom.

2. Have you ever cared for an elderly person before? If so, what was that experience like?
Yes, until now. Since my mother takes care of two old maidens and when my mother is
not at home, I take care of them, the old maiden is a bedridden age of 89 and the other one
is a 94-year-old with a disease of DM. Therefore, my experience of taking care of the
elderly is challenging because it is not an easy task, especially if they are suffering from
any health problem. It requires consistent care and support such as including assistance
with daily living activities and even walking, cleanliness, bathing, maintaining their
hygiene, administering their medication, and so on. It is exhausted in the first place, but
once you get yourself used to it then it’s easy and it’s enjoyable. They say caring for the
elderly is a rewarding experience in many ways.

How do you feel about caring for older adults in your nursing practice?
It feels like comforting to take care for elderly because the work is not difficult. It is
rewarding and fun.

3. What do you think about nurses who work in nursing homes? Have you ever considered a
career in gerontology? What are the positives you can see about developing expertise in this
field of nursing?
I think nurses who work from nursing home is that they are kind and patient.
Sometimes I considered my career in gerontology because it is rewarding and fun. The
positives I can see about developing expertise in this field of nursing are it gives the
opportunity to make a real difference in someone's life.
