Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) Shusaku Arakawa (1936–

2010)

As a young child, Ada Lovelace was very good

at Maths and Languages (English and French).
She didn’t go to university, but she studied
Maths with a professor from the University of
London. In the 1840s, she designed a language
for the world’s first computer. In 1835, Ada
married William King. They had two sons and
a daughter.
Shusaku Arakawa was a painter. He also
designed houses and apartment buildings.
Shusaku was born in Japan in 1936. He moved
to the USA in 1961 and he married Madeline
Gins, another artist. In 1998, Shusaku won a
competition for designing buildings.
He died in the USA in 2010.

Gertrude Jekyll (1843–1932)
