SUBJECT : MEMO DATED SEPTEMBER 11, 2015 DEP ED INVITATION TO THE 2015 LITERACY
CONFERENCE

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 239, “Declaring the period from September 2 to 8 of Every
Year as Literacy Week. In connection therewith, Dep Ed through the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC)
in coordination with other NGAs, NGOs, LGUs will hold the National Literacy Conference Week with the
theme, “Educational Justice and New Literacies” at the ECOTECH Center, Lahug, Cebu City from
September 30 to October2, 2015.

The 2015 conference aims to

1) Explore the scope, definition and application of new literacy;
2) Provide a venue to the exchange of experiences using new literacies relevant to educational
justice; and
3) Promote effective integration of new literacies in local literacy program.
The Dep ED through the Department is inviting LCES, Punong Barangays and Kagawads, barangay health
workers and other officers involved in the universalization of literacy.
Registration fee of Php 5,000.00 to cover board and lodging, handouts and other supplies and materials.
Payment shall be made to the account of DECS PSEC Trust; Landbank of the Philippines at DepEd Pasig
Branch with current account 0672-1000-20.
