RDA / RENI

GROUP 8
WHAT IS RDA/RENI?
It is defined as levels of

intake of energy and

nutrients that, based on

current scientific knowledge,

are considered adequate for

the maintenance of the

health and well-being of all

healthy persons in the

population.
PURPOSE OF RDA/RENI
Planning and procuring food supplies for the
population subgroups.
Interpreting food consumption records of
individuals and populations.
Establishing standards for food assistance
programs.
Evaluating the adequacy of food supplies in
meeting national nutritional needs.
Designing nutrition education programs.
Developing new products in the industry.
Establishing guidelines for nutrition labeling of
foods.

Vitamin K Chromium Sodium
Biotin Flouride Potassium
Pantothenic Acid Manganese Chloride

Chloride

In the 10th edition, there are only minimal requirements that are

given for the electrolytes and Vitamin K, also the Selenium have

been advanced to RDA status.

RDA can serve as a guide such that a

varied diet meeting RDA will probably

be adequate for other nutrients. It

should be provided with a selection of

foods that are acceptable and

palatable to ensure consumption. In

addition to being a source of

nutrients, food has psychological and

social values that are important,

although difficult to quantify.
