Important Information
New Graphics Sub System
We have upgraded the Edgecam graphic system for this release. It now matches Code Wizard and Simulator which
were upgraded in the last release.

Graphic Drivers
With the update to the graphic sub system, we strongly recommend that you check that the latest WHQL certified
driver has been installed.

NVIDIA Driver Settings

For best results, we recommend changing the 3D settings
to use the Workstation App - Dynamic Streaming Global
preset on the NVIDIA Control Panel:
Start Menu > Control Panel > NVIDIA Control Panel > 3D
Settings > Manage 3D settings

Software Rendering Option

A new Use Software Rendering only option has been
added to the Launcher Settings button.
When checked, Edgecam, Code Wizard, Simulator and
ToolStore will render the OpenGL view in software
without using the graphics card. This has the following
main benefits.
 Edgecam can be run on PCs without a
recommended graphics card.
 Enables Edgecam to be run if there is a graphic
driver issue.
 Automatically enabled on unsupported graphic
cards.
Note: Edgecam will render slower when this option is
checked. Edgecam should be used with a recommended
workstation graphics card.

Retire PDI libraries - Next Release

We will stop shipping the PDI SDK for C/C++ with the standard distribution after this release.
This means that if you have to develop a PDI executable in C or C++, you will need to contact the support team to
be sent the required libraries and header files.
Newly created and existing PDIs which use any version of the PDI SDK will continue to be supported.
This does not affect the development of .NET plugins which can also access the PDI API. The PDI API will continue
to be developed to match new functionality and satisfy enhancement requests.

Windows XP Support
Edgecam 2014 R1 will install and run on Windows XP. However, as this operating system nears its 'End of Support'
milestone in April 2014 (ref: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/lifecycle), we cannot
guarantee to resolve any issues that are found to be specific to Windows XP.

Windows 8 Support
The following versions of Windows 8 are supported for Edgecam 2014 R1:
 Windows 8 Professional.
 Windows 8 Enterprise.
Note: Windows 8 RT is not supported.

Edgecam shipments
There are 2 main Edgecam releases each year; the R1 release in October and the R2 release in April.
 The R1 releases are shipped on DVD and available to download from the Customer Portal for customers
who have a valid maintenance contract.
 The R2 releases are only available to download from the Customer Portal for customers who have a valid

Manufacture Enhancements
New Use Current Stock option
In the previous version, the Mill Hole Cycle did not consider the Stock Model when determining the Level and
Clearance.
A Use Current Stock option has been added to the Clearance Associated To modifier on the General tab of the Mill
Hole Cycle. When selected, the Clearance and Level will be associated with the current Stock and Fixtures.
The Use Current Stock option is only available under the following conditions:
 Model Type set to Solid (only valid for Hole Features).
 Mill environment only.
 Planar Mode active.
When selected, the following modifiers will be adjusted:
 The Clearance value will be added to the highest point on the stock or the fixtures selected in the last
Update Fixtures command. This is a single value for all holes selected. If the stock/Fixture is not found or
is below the top of the Model, the Model high point will be used.
 The Retract value will be an increment to the Level value.
 The Level value will be added to the top of the stock above the hole. This will be determined by dropping
a tool (slightly bigger end mill) onto the stock. Potentially, each hole could have its own level. If no stock is
found or it is below the level of the feature, the Hole Feature level will be used.
 The Depth will be recalculated to include the Level adjustment if required. The Depth value will then be
added.

New Chamfering Cycle

A new chamfering cycle has been developed to help the
user to machine chamfers and debur. It supports 2D and
3D geometry.
The cycle can machine:
 Wireframe.
 Edge Loop features.
 Pocket and Boss features.
 Direct solid edges (no need to create edge loop
features).
The cycle can read the Pocket and Boss chamfer
parameters when the option to Use Solid is checked.
Also, Contact Point (0 to 100) allows the user to define
which bit of the tool will be touching the model.

Support for 3D Normal Offset Output

A new 3D Normal Offset Output option has been added
to the Control tab of the Parallel Lace, Profiling, Constant
Cusp Finishing, Rest Finishing, Pencil Mill, Project
Toolpath, Project Flow Curves, Project Boundary Collapse
and Project Circular Pattern cycles.
When selected, this option will allow the controller to
compensate for tool wear (reducing the programmed
radius) by moving the tool along the vector by the wear
value specified in the controller offset.
This is only available on the Ultimate Milling license.

Dynamic Offset
A new Dynamic option has been added to the Datum Type
field of the Machining Sequence dialog Datum Shift dialog,
Index Operation dialog, Merging Sequences dialog and
Index dialog - General tab.
When the part is rotated, the datum rotates with the part.
The co-ordinates will be relative to this new datum
position. The active CPL will still be in the same place as it
is for Absolute. The image depicts XYZ zero point for NC
output.

High Feed Link Option on Grooving Cycles

New Finish Grooving
A new Link Type setting has been added to the Lead/Link
options allowing you to convert Rapid moves to High Feed.
This is particularly useful when grooving at an angle.
When High Feed is selected, the link moves are done at the
Maximum Feedrate, as specified on the 'Machine
Parameters Dialog - Turret tab' of the machine in Code
Wizard. This provides a safer linkage method in tight
situations such as in a bore. Use this linkage method in
preference to Rapid links to avoid potential unresolved
moves (dog legging).

Rough Grooving
A new High Feed rate Link Move option has been added to
the Link Type settings on the Advanced tab.
When High Feed is selected, the link moves are done at the
Maximum Feedrate, as specified on the 'Machine
Parameters Dialog - Turret tab' of the machine in Code
Wizard.

Roughing Cycle - Clearance

The Roughing cycle has been changed to consider the
available Fixtures in the part when defining the safe Z
value - Clearance. When machining solids and fixtures, the
cycle will compare the fixture heights and apply the
defined value on top of the highest one.
This means that the safer clearance will always be used,
avoiding rapid moves over the fixture.

New Option to Display Parametric Shank Graphics

A Visible check box is now available for tool shank
definition in Edgecam Toolchange and ToolStore.
In the case of integrated tool holder and shank graphic, it
is common to include a combined holder and shank
graphic in the tool definition.
Previously, a parametric shank would be displayed
together with the user defined holder/shank graphic; the
user would need to set the parametric shank values to
zero in order to hide the graphic.
You can now enter the actual shank values and use the
check box to define whether the parametric shank is
displayed.
The Visible check box is on, by default, for all existing
tools.

Plugins available in Generate CNC Code

The PDI tab on the Generate CNC Code dialog now lists
available Plugins as well as PDI. They can be executed
before, after or during the creation of the NC file.

CRC Cancel on Rapid Lift Out

It is now possible to output a CRC Cancel on the retract move of a mill profiling cycle. In Code Wizard, the Allow
G40 on Retract Move option must be checked on the Machine Parameters tab and, in Code Generator, the
CRCGCODE token must be present in the Rapid Code Constructor.
If no lead out is specified, the G40 will be activated on the retract move at the end of the cycle.
If no token is included in the Rapid Code Constructor, the G40 will appear on the next feed move - the
automatically generated perpendicular for Geometry Compensation.

Fixture Database - Chucks

Chucks can now be created in the Fixture Manager and
they are split into Chuck with Jaws and Chuck Collet.
They are designed to work on Lathe Post Processors and
3 axis milling machines (no multiplane). They are created
in the database, inserted using the Fixture Database
button in the Workflow Ribbon and, when the user
creates the sequence, the Fixture Chuck replaces the
Code Generator defined Chuck.
Chucks can be created in the database and use the same
parameters as Code Wizard. See the Code Wizard help
for details.
The parametric Chuck body and jaw can be replaced with
a solid model:
 Load the solid model into Edgecam in the Turn
environment and ensure that the Chuck face and
Jaw non-reverse Jaw face are at Z0.
 Use File > Save MEG file to save chuck and jaw
solids as separate files.
Note: You need separate models and database entries
for non-reverse and reverse jaw cases.
When defining solid chucks you still need to enter the
parametric values for the chuck and jaws as these are
needed for positioning purposes.

Auto Positioning for Chucks
Upon selecting a chuck you can specify the gripping face
i.e Internal, step1, step2 etc. The gripping face is
positioned to the gripping diameter and the part stickout
is automatically adjusted so that the back face of the
stock butts up to the gripping face ledge. This is for both
reversed and non reversed jaws.

Auto Alignment of C-axis Feature

When turned parts with C-axis features are loaded,
Workflow will now attempt to align the part about the C-
axis feature.

Strategy Improvements
Strategy tool selection for Milling and Turning now considers Roughing and Finishing tool
status
Roughing and Finishing strategies for milling and turning now consider the status of the Roughing and Finishing
checkboxes for tool selection.

A Roughing strategy will:

1. First look for a dedicated roughing tool that matches the search criteria.

2. If a tool is not found, it will search again for a tool which is capable of both Roughing and Finishing.

3. If not found, it will search again for a tool with no roughing or finishing specified.

4. If not found it will then attempt to create an "autotool" on the fly.

If the tool is set as a Finishing only tool it will not be selected for Roughing.

Similarly, for Finishing, the strategy will first search for a dedicated finishing tool which matches the search criteria,
before searching for a dual purpose tool capable of both. Finishing strategies will not select a dedicated Roughing
tool.

All searches are performed in the Toolkit before searching the wider ToolStore.

Improved Turn / Bore tool selection

For Turn and Bore tool selection, we now set an included angular range rather than hard coding the insert symbol.
The range is between 30 and 80 degrees. For Roughing, we perform a descending sort to pick the tool with the
largest Included Angle. For Finishing, we perform an ascending sort to pick the tool with the smallest Included
Angle. You can override this by setting the Roughing and Finishing flags.

Additionally, if the tool search fails to find a left-handed tool, it will search again for a right-handed reversed tool.

Improvements to Grooving
The Rough Groove cycle can leave cusps of uncut material and, therefore, a Finishing cycle is now applied to
remove these cusps prior to final finishing.

 Portability made easier; folders do not need to be copied if the server changes.
 No need to configure a Job Images folder for each client because Live Job Reports reads them directly.
 Faster access because the images are saved in the database.

Code Generator Enhancements

String Variable Assignment
A new method for assigning String variables has been added to the Code Generator:
 Converting Numeric Variables to Strings and Strings to Numeric (see String Variable Assignment for more
information).

New System Variables

Three new system variables (COOLANTCHUCK, COOLANTSPINDLE and COOLANTTURRET) have been added to the
following macros in the Code Generator:
 C Axis Macro Reference (MACRO 165 - TOOLCHANGE).
 Turning Macro Reference (MACRO 15 - TOOLCHANGE).
 Turning Macro Reference (MACRO 252 - SPINDLE CONTROL).
 Turning Macro Reference (MACRO 716 - COOLANT).

Non Macro-Specific Variables - Milling and C-Axis Turning

New CAXIS and CRC3D variables have been added to the Code Generator (see Non Macro-Specific Variables -
Milling and C-Axis Turning for more information).

Milling Macros
A Dynamic setting has been added to the STYPE System Variable in the following Milling macro:
 Milling Macro Reference (MACRO 43 - INDEX PALLET).
XPARTNORMAL, YPARTNORMAL and ZPARTNORMAL System Variables have been added to the following Milling
macro:
 Milling Macro Reference (MACRO 2 - MOVE FEED).
SUBFUNCT and FIELD 12 System Variables have been added to the following Milling macro:
 Milling Macro Reference (MACRO 1 - MOVE RAPID).

Sync Points
A Sync Point will now identify whether or not a Sync has been generated from an Update Stock using a new
SYNCFROMUPDATESTOCK system variable. The value of this variable will be 1 when coming from an Update Stock
and 0 when coming from any other 4-axis sync. You can then use this to create logic on the post to skip Sync Points
from Update Stock, if required.
Note: Update Stock is a true synchronisation point; Edgecam and Simulator may behave differently from the
machine if you decide to skip these points.

Code Wizard Enhancements

Dynamic Offset
A new Dynamic Offset option has been added to the
Machine Parameters Tab.
When checked, the Datum Type on the Index Operation
dialog and the General tab of the Machining Sequence
dialog, will include a Dynamic option.

Support for a Third and Fourth Tool Setting position

In 2013 R2, for Keyed Index Turrets, support was added
for one additional tool setting position. We have now
extended this to 4 possible set positions.
The setting positions are defined in the Code Wizard on
the turret page. The required setting position can be
selected in the Toolstore and Edgecam Toolchange
Mounting tab.

CRC Cancel on Rapid Lift Out

It is now possible to output a CRC Cancel on the retract
move of a Mill Profiling cycle. The Allow G40 on Retract
Move option must be checked on the Machine
Parameters tab and the CRCGCODE token must be
present in the Rapid Code Constructor.
If no lead out is specified, the G40 will be activated on
the retract move at the end of the cycle.
If no token is included in the Rapid Code Constructor, the
G40 will appear on the next feed move - the
automatically generated perpendicular for Geometry
Compensation.

Template IndexG200 upgrade

The adaptive-indexg200 template has started to receive
maintenance in order to bring it in line with all the other
templates.
In 2014 R1, we have started a major overhaul of this
template to improve its maintainability as well as the NC
output. After a CGD upgrade, a comparison of the output
will probably resemble the image opposite.
Existing CGDs will probably require post-update action
from the user:
 CY Hole cycles will require coordinate tokens to
be replaced with those used elsewhere in this
template.
 Circular Interpolation may require use of the
combined feed/speed mode token. In some
cases, the CLW/CCLW code constructors are
interchanged without detriment to the NC.
 The thread turn code constructor is now used.
This may require formatting with INDEXG200
movement tokens.
 The longhand thread G code is also now used and
should be set to G1.
 Changes may be needed to CY CRC coding.
Our testing shows improvements in a number of areas.
We believe that the R11 face angle parameter is
corrected in some circumstances and that G200 mode
setting is more reliable. CY hole cycles are more in line
with G200 machine modes and there is a general
improvement in output modality due to the changed use
of tokens and their underlying variables. It is essential
that NC output be carefully checked by the user before
use, especially if any customisation has been added to
the CGD. In the event of any problems being found,
please log the details with support and revert to the CGD
as it was before update. Your feedback on any areas
where improvement is needed would be appreciated.

Editing Area Enhancements

Enhancements have been made to the editing area of the Code Constructors:
 The selection no longer goes wrong when the mouse goes out of the editing area of the Code Constructor.
 Ctrl+Shift+End/Home have been implemented. Ctrl+A now selects the whole Code Constructor content.
 TAB now inserts spaces. Ctrl+TAB gives access to the OK/Cancel/Help buttons.
 The Search/Replace function can be accessed by Ctrl+F and/or Ctrl+H.

Templates
The following Template changes have been implemented:
1. We have added a new Code Constructor and NC Style/ Hole Cycles option with a drop-down list named
Back Bore / Face Cycle Points where the default is Use Common:
 Don't Use will call the cycle definition Code Constructor for each point.
 Use Common will call the normal cycle points for each point (current behaviour).
 Use Dedicated will call the new Back Bore / Face Cycle Points.
2. The [WORKREGISTER] token has its value fixed for the TNC template. [WORKGCODE2] has been created for
other templates and is available at Set Work Datums. [WORKGCODE2] will contain the override while
[WORKGCODE] will not have the override. The user should use the appropriate one, according to the
machine/process requirements.
3. Milling templates have received a new parameter to configure the precision of rotary movements. The
Minimum angular movement parameter is on the NC File General tab of NC-Style area. Rotary output will,
from now on, use that value for rounding purposes. This should eliminate problems where angular
precision was incompatible with linear precision.
4. We have implemented support for smooth code output on the TNC through an Exact Stop Code
Constructor. There is not a point on the setvar for single shot or modal since M90 works only in the line in
which it is programmed. If users want it for a different purpose, they still have the Code Constructor to set
it On/Off. The token is included on Linear, Circular and Helical code constructors.
5. Rotary Axis tokens are now present on the Set Work Datums Code Constructor.

Licensing
Revocation of network licenses over the Internet
Edgecam 2014 R1 introduces the ability to revoke network licenses in one simple operation using the CLS License
Manager. Please note the following requirements:
Requirements:
 Sentinel RMS License Manager Version 8.5.1 or higher is installed on the server PC (version 8.5.3 is
available on your product DVD).
 CLS 2014 or above is installed on the Server PC (Edgecam does not need to be installed).
 The Server PC has an Internet connection.
The features of this new method are:
 It will revoke all of the licenses for the selected servercode automatically.
 If licenses for multiple Vero products are installed on the server under different servercodes, only the
licenses for the selected servercode will be revoked.
 Licenses cannot be revoked if any of them are in use and a warning is issued about this.
This method can only be used via CLS License Manager on the Server PC. For details on how to use the new
procedure, please refer to network_RevokeLicense.pdf which is on the DVD and installed with CLS.

New 'Shop Floor Solids' module license for Shop Floor Editor
A new 'Shop Floor Solids' module license has been introduced to provide the ability to load Edgecam part files
containing CATIA V5 and Creo Parametric solids bodies into Shop Floor Editor. Please contact your local reseller for
further details.

Upgrade to Sentinel RMS Version 8.5.3

Your Edgecam 2014 R1 DVD includes the latest release of the Sentinel RMS Network License Server and associated
utilities. It is recommended that when you receive your next network license file, you upgrade to the latest
Sentinel RMS License Server which can be found in the \Sentinel RMS Licensing\License Manager Installation
folder on the DVD.

Saving parts when connection to a network license server is lost

In previous releases of Edgecam, if the connection to the network license server was lost due to the server
machine going down, for example, a message was displayed to alert the user but it was not possible to save any
work done since the last save and Edgecam was left in an unresponsive state.
In Edgecam 2014 R1, when the connection to the license server is lost it displays more meaningful messages and
provides the opportunity to save any work done since the last save before closing. When Edgecam is started again
and the license server is still down, grace licensing will be used and, if it is back up, the network licenses will be
used.

Single CLS works with the R1 and R2 releases

In previous releases, we have installed a different version of CLS for both the R1 and R2 releases. From the release
of Edgecam 2014 R1, we will now just update the R1 version of CLS when the Edgecam R2 release is installed. For
Edgecam 2014 R1, the tooltip for CLS in the notification area (bottom right hand corner of the screen) is CLS 2014:

This change means that when Edgecam 2014 R2 is released, we will update CLS 2014 so there is only one 2014 CLS
installation that will work with both the R1 and R2 releases.

New Features in Version 2013 R2

Below is an overview of new features and enhancements in the last release.
For a summary of new features in previous releases, please visit the History section of the Edgecam website.

New User Interface - Workflow

Workflow
Workflow aims to make Edgecam easier to use by providing a
framework to guide the user from a new CAD model to NC code
as intuitively as possible. It uses guided automation to help the
user accomplish the tasks of part setup, analysis and feature
creation, manufacture and deployment. The new ribbon toolbar
layout is designed to work from left to right and guide the user
through the manufacturing process in sequential steps.
At each stage, Workflow will attempt to make automatic
decisions or suggestions as to how best to achieve the goal:
each automatic decision can easily be changed by the user. For
example, the initial decision as to machine on a Lathe or Mill will
be made automatically by analysing the geometry of the
component but can be changed or refined using the interface
immediately, before progressing to the next step.

Ease of Use Enhancements

Interactive Picking
The Mill cycle dialogs have been updated to include buttons for
selecting data interactively.
The top of the dialog now has a series of pictures indicating
what data is required:
 As the data is picked, the appropriate button is
ticked.
 Some picking is only required when a particular
option has been selected, for example, Start
Points or Stock Profile. The button will be greyed
out until that option is enabled.
 If any buttons are left without data after the OK
button has been clicked, a prompt will be
displayed.

Initial Sequence
In previous releases, users were presented with a full dialog
covering all of the options for Mill, Turn and Wire.
The Initial Sequence now only displays the options required for
each discipline.

User-defined Groups within Instruction Browser

Custom groups of instructions can now be created in the
sequence browser to match, for example, Roughing and
Finishing processes.

File Location Management

We have improved the management of file locations within
Edgecam.
Edgecam now remembers the file location for each file that has
been previously opened or saved. For example, if a PCI file was
previously loaded from a folder named 'PCI Examples', that
folder will be opened when a PCI file is next loaded using the PCI
dialog.
This enhancement will benefit users because they will now be
directed to the folders which they have visited before for similar
file types.

Decimal Separator
Edgecam and ToolStore have been improved to support the use
of comma as a decimal separator.
If the Operating System is set to use comma as a decimal
separator, Edgecam and ToolStore will now interpret the
comma as a decimal separator. In Edgecam, a dot (point) can
still be used because it will be recognised and converted to the
system decimal separator as soon as the dialog is closed.
Note: A comma cannot be used when the Operating System is
set to use dot (point) as a decimal separator because Edgecam
was conceptually created to use dot (point) as the only decimal
separator.
Limitations:
 Only supported in Edgecam and ToolStore.
 Edgecam will allow the use of both comma and
dot (point) when the Operating System is set to
use comma as a decimal separator. However,
ToolStore will only allow the use of comma.
 The Advanced 5 Axis cycle does not currently
support the use of comma.
 Code Wizard does not support the use of comma
as a decimal separator; for example, on machine
parameters.
 When comma is the decimal separator, a 'space'
is interpreted as a partial confirmation of co-
ordinate inputs.

Docking Dialogs
A new Enable Docking For Cycle Dialogs option has been added
to the Title bar of each dialog. This new option enables the
Dialog windows for cycles to be docked at the left or right side
of the viewing area and, optionally, hidden to keep the viewing
area uncluttered.

Editing Cycles - Regenerate Cycle

Previously, when the Pick data for a cycle was edited via the

browser, a Regenerate Edited Cycles button ( ) was

displayed. For Edgecam 2013 R2, a banner is displayed warning
the user to regenerate the cycle.
The cycle can then be regenerated in one of two ways:
 To regenerate a single instruction, right-click a
single instruction in the Instructions window and
select Regenerate from the list.
 To regenerate the entire machining sequence,

click the Regenerate icon ( ) at the top of

Mask Customisation Improvements - High Speed Roughing

mask
Dialog Masks provide the ability to customise (mask) a dialog to
suit a market sector or to set commands to a company standard
enabling all engineers to use the same settings. You can modify
the appearance and settings of the Edgecam command dialogs
by applying a mask. This may be to:
 Set default values.
 Add or change images and tool tips.
 Change the order of modifiers.
 Hide modifiers.
 Change the number of columns.
 Move modifiers to a different tab.
It is also possible to have more than one mask per command
and add these variations into the menu. For example, you may
rough two different materials and wish to preset some of the
modifiers to cut down on typing or set and hide other modifiers.
By creating two masks, the Roughing command can be preset
with the desired values and, if required, the modifiers can be
hidden to simplify the dialog.
We have added a sample High Speed Roughing mask to the
Roughing Cycle. This mask uses Waveform and all of the
redundant modifiers have been removed from the dialog.
Note: When creating a new mask, a default name (UserDefined)
appended with a number will be assigned to the mask, for
example, UserDefined1.

Show Version History

A new Show Version History option has been added to the File
menu.
A list will be displayed with entries for each time the displayed
file was saved. The following details will be displayed for each
entry:
 Filename.
 Date.
 Time.
 Comments.
 User
 Machine.
The Comments field displays the text entered in the new
Comment field of the Save As dialog.
Note: Details will only be displayed for files saved using
Edgecam 2013 R2 or later.

Mill Enhancements

Rationalise - Merge Identical Roughing and Profiling cycles

Typically, when milling cycles are applied to features, they are
applied feature by feature using the Planning Board.
This can lead to multiple identical cycles in the sequence
browser with, for example, one cycle for each pocket.
Rationalise can now merge these cycles into one cycle, as is
already done for hole cycles.
When merge milling cycles is checked in the Rationalise dialog,
cycles that are machined by the same Tool on the same CPL and
whose dialog settings are identical are merged.
The benefit of merging the cycles not only makes the machining
sequence shorter and easier to manage but the merged cycles
inherit the toolpath ordering of the cycle.
Initially, this has been implemented for the Roughing and
Profiling cycles.

Mill Cycles - Select Boundary Edges Direct from Solid

The Milling cycles have been updated to allow boundaries to be
selected directly from Solid Edges or EdgeLoops without the
need to create geometry edges or EdgeLoops first.
If the edges are not parallel to the current CPL, they are
automatically projected into the CPL to form a 2D boundary.

Five Axis Interpolation Controls

The Interpolation Controls in the Five Axis Milling dialog Depth
Parameters have been enhanced and new Point Interpolation,
Feed rate Move and Rapid Rate Move parameters have been
added.

Protect Solid
A new Protect Solid parameter has been added to the Control
tab.
When machining Face features, the cycle is not aware of the
whole solid and will machine only the given feature resulting in
the tool going into the part. Protect Solid makes the cycle aware
of the solid model and prevents gouges when trimming out the
toolpath.
This should avoid the need for boundary creation in several
parts and improve confidence when applying toolpath.

Turn Enhancements

New Finish Groove Cycle

A new Finish Groove cycle utilising the same processing as the
Finish Turn cycle has been implemented to provide capabilities
not available previously and to improve compatibility between
the cycles.
The main advantages are:
 Ability to change setting point depending on the
side of tool in contact on the plunge moves.
 Ability to output CRC control codes and to change
that code when changing tool sides.
 Ability to set an overlap.
 Ability to control lead in and out.
 Ability to split the cycle in the middle or side.

Finish Turning - Break First Entity enhanced

A new Break Orientation Angle setting has been added to the
Control options allowing you to specify the angle of the
theoretical element for which to break the first profile element.
The angle of the theoretical element is controlled by an
absolute user-supplied angle. If no angle is supplied then a right
angle is assumed.

Update Stock - Multiple Turret Sequence

Edgecam 2013 R2 has been improved to allow the insertion of
an Update Stock command between existing instructions on
Multiple Turret turning sequences.

always available.

Retract Along Approach Moves

A new Retract Along Approach Moves option has been added
to the Swarf Clearance section of the Control tab.
With this option checked, the cycle retracts the tool along the
coordinate path of the preceding Rapid or Feed Move
command.

Wire Enhancements

Wire Profile Feature

A new Wire Profile Feature command has been added to find
features suitable for Wire Erosion from a solid. This facility
removes the need to extract the edges from the solid to make
the wireframe fences.
The following points should be noted:
 Features consist of faces suitable for Wire
erosion which must be straight and through i.e.
ruled surfaces. Faces that are not straight ruled
will not be included in the feature as they cannot
be machined using Wire EDM.
 Intersecting edges must be straight to within a
Tolerance, otherwise the chain will be broken
and separate features may result.
 Faces can be picked individually, by window or
chained
 Selected faces can have differing levels and
heights; they do not need to be on parallel
planes.
 It is possible to control the XY and UV Profile
Height of the feature using controls on the
feature dialog.
 The identified features appear in the feature list
and have their own list of properties. The feature
sub type is identified as Pocket, Boss or Open.
Note: If the desired feature cannot be created, try adjusting the
Tolerance or change the selection method.

Wire Toolpath - Maximum Allowable Values

In the Machine Configuration dialog, it is possible to set the
Maximum allowable UV offsets and Taper Angles for the wire
machine.
When generating a Wire toolpath, the Maximum UV Offsets
achieved for that toolpath are displayed and an error is reported
should these exceed the specified maximum values for the
machine.

Open Profile
Open Profile options have been added to the Approach/Retract
Tab specifying the Start and End extensions to be added to the
wire toolpath when machining open profiles. The extensions are
tangential and are only applied to open profiles.

User Technology
In the previous release, only Machine Technology was available
when selecting Material and Wire which could not be amended.
Edgecam 2013 R2 introduces the possibility for users to create
their own User Technology and recall this when required.
Machine and User Technologies are stored in separate
databases; the User Technology database is written to the
Machdef folder of the user.
The Material and Wire lists now contain Machine Technology
and User Technology which is highlighted in Blue.

Part Modeler Enhancements

Moving Faces
We have introduced a Move Face procedure to help the user
modify a third party model and prepare it for manufacture. This
new function will allow the user to:
 Move the position of "dumb" features, for
example, pockets and bosses, around the model.
They can either be moved from the original CAD
datum position or relative to a user defined
position using Translation and Rotation.
 Modify areas of features, for example, pocket
walls and boss heights, on a third party model.
Individual faces can be moved using Translation
and Rotation in X, Y or Z or a combination of
these.
These enhancements will greatly improve preparation for
manufacture when working with third party models.

Feature Finder - Moving Hole Features

In the last release, a Hole Feature Finder procedure was added.
This procedure has been enhanced to provide the ability to
move these found holes to a new position within the model.
After finding Holes, as described in Feature Finding Holes, the
holes can be moved using one of the following methods:
 Manual Move.
 Edit the Construction Plane.
 Assign 2D Constraints.
 General Construction procedures, for example,
2D Translate, 2D Rotate and 3D Mirror.

What's New in Edgecam 2014 R1 53 of 68

www.edgecam.com

Analyzing Profiles
The Analyze Profile procedure within Part Modeler has been
improved to help users interrogate the constraints on sketches
and also show areas of potential problems prior to modelling.
The improved function:
 Displays a summary of the sketch profile in one dialog
box.
 Allows the user to click the Show button to display the
areas of concern on the sketch, such as overlapping
entities and open profiles.
 Displays the number of under constrained entities within
the sketch. Also, when the user moves the mouse cursor
over the sketch entity, it will list the missing constraints.

3D Mirror
The 3D Mirror procedure within Part Modeler has been
improved and now allows two previously unavailable options,
Copy and Move, to be used. The following procedures are now
available:
 Copy
Copies the entities and keeps the original
entities.
Note: All associated features such as thread data
and surface finish will be copied. However, if the
original entities are edited, the copied (mirrored)
entities will not be updated.
 Reference
Copies the entities and keeps the original
entities.
Note: If the original entities are edited, the
copied (mirrored) entities will be updated.
However, any associated features such as thread
data and surface finish will not be transferred.
 Move
Moves the entities about a defined mirror plane.

Offset Faces
It is now possible to use a window selection to select multiple
faces when using the Offset Face procedure within Part
Modeler. This new function will:
 Allow multiple faces of a feature to be selected
easily to allow offsetting of the "dumb" feature.
 Allow faces that are fully within a window
selection to be selected (Left to Right window
selection).
 Allow faces that are partially within the window
selection to be selected (Right to Left window
selection).

Simulator Enhancements

Data Transfer Speed Improvements

In previous releases, each time Simulator was started, Edgecam
had to send the entire toolpath from start to finish together
with all model data. This happened when the Simulator was
started or when an Update Stock instruction was specified and
created a speed restriction when simulating large parts. In
addition, simulation always started from the beginning of the
sequence and it could take some time to reach the point from
which you actually wanted to start the simulation.
Simulator now runs as a separate process providing the
following benefits:
 Simulator starts instantly on second start up; a
major benefit when simulating large parts.
 Simulator starts from where the simulation last
finished; no need to run simulation from the start
each time.
 Update Stock is up to 50% quicker than the
previous release.

Section Milling View

In the milling environment, a new Section Milling View option
allows the stock to be cut in one of three predefined axis planes
(XY, ZX or ZY).
Sectioning the stock can be used for checking that angular holes
do not intersect.

Program Stop
Simulator has been enhanced in version 2013 R2 and now
recognises a Program Stop Stop Option.

Sampled Stock
Simulator has been enhanced in version 2013 R2 and now
provides the option to use Sampled instead of Triangular Stock
which will improve speed at the expense of accuracy.
The new functionality should be used for large, complex parts
which Rapid Result could not previously process since it does
not support multi-axis.
Note:
 This functionality is not intended for prismatic
parts.
 This option allows Rapid Result for multi-axis
parts and is not meant to be used for Simulation.
Therefore, a Using Sampled Stock. Rendering
once every hundred cuts message is displayed in
Simulation when this option is checked.
 Applicable to Milling only.

Reduced Memory Usage

Simulator has been enhanced in version 2013 R2 and now
provides the option to Quit on close.
The Simulator will continue running in the background when
closed to improve startup speed. However, to save memory, it
can be set to quit when not visible.

Support for Keyed Index Turrets

A Turret Holder Mating option has been added to the Tool
Mounting Parameters providing for machines fitted with index
turrets that have keyed recesses into which pre-assembled
keyed tool holders can be mounted.

Holder Origin Options

New Holder Origin possibilities make it easy to position the Tool
Holder graphic.
Previously, for Turning tools, the Holder Origin, the reference
position for setting the Holder Graphic offsets was the Insert
Centre and, for Milling and Hole tools, it was the Flute Height.
If you attached a Holder Graphic to a Turning tool and specified
zero Holder Offsets, the Holder Graphic origin would be placed
at the Insert Centre or Flute height for Milling and Hole tools.
You would then have to calculate the Holder Offsets to position
the holder origin back to the Gauge Datum.
For Turning tools, a calculator on the dialog calculated the
distance required to move the Holder Origin back to the Gauge
Datum, taking into account the distance from the Insert Centre
to the Insert Tip.
A Holder Origin option has been added to the Tool Mounting
Parameters which can be set to either the Insert Centre
(Turning tools) or Flute Height (Milling and Hole tools), Tool Tip
or Gauge Datum.

Coolant Options
A Coolant option has been added to the Tool Mounting
Parameters allowing you to specify whether the tool can pass
coolant and the method used (Off, Flood, Mist or Air).
The Through Coolant option in the Tool Geometry Parameters
has been enhanced to provide a High Pressure selection.
Note: The new options will be available on both Milling and
Turning tools. However, the Mist and Air Coolant options will
have no effect on Turning.

Draw Tool Clearance

A Draw tool clearance option has been added to the Setting
Preferences.
This option is used to display a ghosted image of the insert
shape which will be used to generate the turn cycle offset
including tool clearance angles.

New 'Full Associativity Link' Option

For Edgecam 2013 R2, a new Full Associativity Link Preferences
option is available.
Previously, when an associative tool (tools that have the
'Associative' option checked in the toolchange dialog) was
loaded directly from the Toolstore, the Toolkit and Mount
modifiers could not be edited.
Full Associativity Link is unchecked, by default, allowing the
mount modifiers to be amended when the tool is not in a
toolkit.
For full associativity with the tool record, check the Full
Associativity Link option.

New 'Display turn tool clearance' Option

A Display turn tool clearance option has been added to the Tool
Libraries Preferences.

Licensing

Rotary Rotate command

The Rotary Rotate option in the Edit, Transform menu allows
you to repeat machining instructions around the Z axis of the
initial CPL. This option is now available in the Standard Milling
licence and above; in previous releases, it was only available in
the Advanced Milling licence and above.

Changes to Solid Machinist licenses

The Strategy Manager Run-Only option has been added to all
Solid Machinist and the Sold CAD/CAM licenses. This allows
Solid Machinist users to run strategies but not edit them. The
Strategy Manager licence is required to create, edit and save
strategies.

Part Modeler CAD Loader licenses

The Part Modeler CAD Loaders are no longer a cost option and
are included as standard. This means that ACIS, Inventor, NX,
Creo Parametric and CATIA V5 CAD models are available to all
users who have a Part Modeler or Solid CAD/CAM license.

Lathe Index now available in the Advanced Turning and

Advanced Production licenses
The Lathe Index option is now included in the Advanced Turning
and Advanced Production licenses where, previously, it was only
available on the Ultimate Turning and Ultimate Production
licenses. This change has been made to support the increasingly
common single spindle, single B-Axis head machine
configurations.

Reserving network licenses explained

When licenses are reserved, all of the reserved licenses must be
available in order for the software to run and, if they are, they
will all be consumed. Therefore, you should only reserve the
licenses that you wish to use and have sufficient quantity for. If,
for example, your network license consists of 1 x Advanced
Milling + 1 x Solid CAD/CAM + 1 x Communications and you
want to use the Milling license on one PC and the
Communications license on another, you should not configure
all Edgecam client PCs to reserve all 3 licenses because the first
PC to run a licensed application will consume all 3 licenses. One
PC should be configured with Advanced Milling + Solid
CAD/CAM and the other PC configured with just
Communications. If you then want to swap the licenses between
the PCs, you will need to use 'Configure Network Licenses' to
change the selections.

Changes to the Advanced Javascript PCI license

In 2013 R2, the Advanced Javascript PCI license has been
renamed to Advanced Customisation.
This change has been made because the license is now being
used to license access to custom dialog masks as well as
Javascript PCIs that use webforms. Other features may also be
added to this license in the future.
The Advanced Customisation license is free of charge but only
valid while the customer has an active maintenance contract.
The use of the Advanced Customisation license requires the pre-
requisite Edgecam system license to be under a valid
maintenance contract. If the Edgecam system license is not
under a valid maintenance contract, the software licensed with
Advanced Customisation will not function.
We have also introduced a new message, as shown below, that
is displayed when a user attempts to run a Javascript PCI that
uses webforms and their license does not meet the criteria to
run them:
