Boyle’s Law
Using Syringe and Mallow

Objective:
 To show the relationship between volume and pressure.
 To know the Boyle’s law.
 To prove that the volume is inversely proportional to pressure.
Materials:
1 20 ml Syringe
1 Marshmallow
1 Illustration board
Scissors
Glue or any adhesive material

Parts of syringe:

Procedure:
1. Prepare the illustration board.
2. Get the needle out of the syringe.
3. Separate the syringe barrel from the plunger and the seal of the syringe and put a marshmallow
inside.
4. Put any adhesive material on the top rest syringe (Plunger Flange). Wait for it until it’s dry.
5. Stick the top rest syringe on the illustration board.
6. Get the syringe barrel with a marshmallow inside and assemble it back on its plunger and its seal.
7. To proceed, make sure to level the rubber stopper on the end line of the barrel. And cover the hub
with your finger.

8. Call other members to hold the plunge. And use the other hand to gently push down the syringe and
see what happens.
9. Release the finger from covering the hub to put the marshmallow back in its original form.
10. Set the rubber stopper on the top end level of the syringe barrel. And cover the hub with a finger.
11. Gently pull the syringe barrel and see what happens.
12. Make sure to record your observations.

Explanation:
Let the marshmallow be the volume determiner.
As you push the syringe barrel, you will notice that the marshmallow getting smaller than its original
size. This is due to the high pressure. And as you pull the syringe barrel, you will notice that the size of
the marshmallow increases. This is due to the low pressure.

Meaning to say, if the pressure increase the volume decreases and if the pressure decreases, the volume
increases. They are inversely proportional.

Therefore, the volume and pressure is inversely proportional.

After pushing: After pulling:

The volume decreases as the pressure The volume increases as the pressure
increases. decreases.
