Electrical-grounding Instructions
The equipment must be grounded to an earth ground by a separate conductor. The neutral side of the line is not to be considered the earth ground. On equipment
provided with a line cord, the equipment must be connected to properly grounded, three-pin receptacle. Do not use a three-to-two pin adapter.
Overview
The RAID option enables the expansion of storage space for images.
This section describes the installation and configuration of one or two additional hard disk drives (146GB each) and a
PERC board to the computer.
NOTE This manual covers Dell 650, Dell 670, and Dell 690 computers.
Parts
The RAID option kit contains the following parts, depending on the installed computer:
Tools
Standard FSE tool kit
Estimated Time
• Hardware installation—45 min.
• Software installation—according to your system
Installation Workflow
This section is divided into two sub-sections. The first section describes Dell 650 and 670, and the second - Dell 690.
Follow the procedure which pertains to the computer installed on your system.
The installation procedure for Dell 650 and Dell 670 consists of:
1 Hardware Installation - Dell 650/670 (see page 3)
a Opening the Computer - Dell 650/670 (see page 3)
b Installing the Hard Disks and SCSI Board - Dell 650/670 (see page 5)
c Closing the Computer - Dell 650/670 (see page 11)
2 SCSI BIOS Configuration of the RAID Board - Dell 650/670 (see page 14)
The installation procedure for Dell 690 consists of:
1 Hardware Installation - Dell 690 (see page 23)
a Opening the Computer - Dell 690 (see page 23)
b Installing the Hard Disks and SCSI Board - Dell 690 (see page 25)
c Closing the Computer - Dell 690 (see page 28)
2 SCSI BIOS Configuration of the RAID Board - Dell 690 (see page 30)
NOTE This procedure requires re-installation of the system software.
NOTE All hardware installation procedures are written for one hard disk (for CT scanner). For EBW perform
the same for two disks. Any difference in procedure for each system will be noted in the manual.
CAUTION You must follow the instructions regarding ESD protection when performing any
procedure inside the computer. Failure to do so can cause serious damage to computer
components and possible loss of data.
• When unpacking a static-sensitive component from its shipping carton, do not
remove the component from the antistatic packing material until you are ready to
install the component in your computer. Just before unwrapping the antistatic
packaging, be sure to discharge static electricity from your body.
• When transporting a sensitive component, first place it in an antistatic container or
packaging.
• Handle all sensitive components in a static-safe area. If possible, use antistatic floor
pads and workbench pads.
NOTE While you work, periodically touch any Figure 1: Opening the Cover
unpainted metal surface on the computer to
dissipate any static electricity that could
harm internal components.

CAUTION You must follow the instructions regarding Anti-static protection when performing any
procedure inside the computer. Failure to do so can cause serious damage to computer
components and possible loss of data. Refer to the system’s service manual.

CAUTION Ensure that all cables are connected, and fold cables out of the way.
Ensure that no tools or extra parts are left inside the computer.
1 Route the SCSI cable under the power cable harness (see Figure 15). Connect the SCSI cable to the hard disk
using the second or third connectors of the SCSI cable (see Figure 14), instead of the first connector.
In the examples in Figure 15 and Figure 16, the SCSI cable is routed under the power cable harness.
The flat cable is connected to the hard disks by the second and third connectors on the SCSI cable. Routing the
cable in this way will avoid jamming the SCSI cable and/or connector under the housing when closing the cover.

NOTE Before closing the computer make sure that the IDE cable is firmly fixed to the motherboard and the
connectors to the DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives.
