How Relationships With Family Affect Academics

I. Introduction
a) Thesis Statement: Developing a healthy relationship with one's
parents is essential for middle and high school students because it is
linked to increased academic achievement and a better sense of
self.
b) Reference to Body Paragraph 1: People with parents engaged in
their education are more likely to earn higher grades and graduate
from school.
c) Reference to Body Paragraph 2: Family engagement also creates an
overall environment of support that enables students to feel cared for
and valued at school. There are many ways family and parental
involvement and engagement can take forms.
d) Reference to Body Paragraph 3: Every society is made up of blocks
of family units. The stronger each block is, the stronger the structure
of the society. Families are thus the building blocks upon which rests
the fate of society. In multiple hadith we are encouraged to have
good relationships with our families and parents and some of the
benefits told are that it helps our future and in retrospect our
education.

II. Body Paragraph 1:

a) Topic Sentence: People with parents engaged in their education are
more likely to earn higher grades and graduate from school.
b) Research: Researchers found strong connections between family
involvement/engagement and student academic achievement across
fifty different studies. The earlier educators establish family
engagement, the more effective they are in raising student
performance. Family partnerships formed during elementary school
years build a strong foundation for future student success and
continued engagement. When students receive more support,
classrooms with engaged families perform better as a whole.

c) Support (my words): As shown by the research, a good relationship
with one's family and parents gives children a foundation of success
in their education. Teenagers with good relationships with their
parents also have higher self esteem and confidence which also
helps in their education.

III. Body Paragraph 2:

a) Topic Sentence: Family engagement also creates an overall
environment of support that enables students to feel cared for and
valued at school. There are many ways family and parental
involvement and engagement can take forms.
b) Research: Family engagement also creates an overall environment
of support that enables students to feel cared for and valued at
school. One of our core XQ Design Principles is caring, trusting
relationships—investing in students personally, both in and out of the
classroom. Engaging with families, and understanding the
experiences students are having outside of school, is one key way to
do just that.
Family involvement and engagement can take many forms. Some
common examples include:
● Communication between families and students about school and
academics
● Help with homework and studying
● Discussions about areas in need of improvement, progress, and
achievements
● A home environment conducive to studying
● Clear educational and academic expectations
● Communication between family and school
● Parent participation or attendance at school and at after-school
functions ( xqsuperschool.org)
c) Support (my words): As said in the research family and parental
engagement creates an environment in which teenagers are able to
value their education and actually study to pursue different
educational goals. There are many ways in which this involvement or
engagement can take place. Some examples given are help with
homework or even just setting expectations and goals with your
parents.

IV. Body Paragraph 3:

a) Topic Sentence: Every society is made up of blocks of family units.
The stronger each block is, the stronger the structure of the society.
Families are thus the building blocks upon which rests the fate of
society. In multiple hadith we are encouraged to have good
relationships with our families and parents and some of the benefits
told are that it helps our future and in retrospect our education.
b) Research: A Muslim mother has a valued and dignified role. Her
contribution is acknowledged and appreciated.Regarding the great
right of the father, the Holy Prophet (S) said: Allah is satisfied when
the father becomes happy and is dissatisfied when the father
becomes angry. Allah has forbidden cutting off relations with the
parents and has condemned it.
c) Support (my words): In my research I have learned that we are told
to keep relationships with our parents and that is one of the most
important things we can do. They are the reason we are here today
and help us with anything we need. It ties into my project because if
we have good relations with them it also gives us a good
environment where we can prosper and it helps us reach our
academic goals.

V. Conclusion:
a) Thesis: Thesis Statement: Developing a healthy relationship with
one's parents is essential for middle and high school students
because it is linked to increased academic achievement and a better
sense of self.
b) Summary/ Reflection: In conclusion a healthy relationship with one's
parents helps cultivate an environment where one can achieve
academic success. People with parents engaged in their education
are more likely to earn higher grades and graduate from school. I
