ACTIVITY 1

1.1: Changing the Size (Dimensions) of an Image (Scale down)

Download the file parrot_original from the downloads folder (virtual classroom).

Open it with GIMP. From the menu: File>open ...

Change the image size to a width of 24 px, keeping the ratio between width and height.

Export the file as jpg. To do this from the menu: File>Export as. The window shown below pops up.
There you must write the filename and the extension. In this case, the filename and extension must be
surname_parrot_24px.jpg. The type of image is set by the extension.

Upload surname_parrot_24px.jpg to the virtual classroom.

1.2: Changing the Size (Dimensions) of an Image (Scale up)

Recover the original image (parrot_original) and change its size to a width of 1000 px, keeping the ratio
between width and height.

Export the file as jpg and upload it with the name: surname_parrot_1000px.jpg.

1.3: Changing the Filesize (and the quality) of a JPEG

Open again the file parrot_original (downloads folder).

Export it to a jpg file, reducing the quality to a 10 %.

Note that:
The quality of the image is worse. Especially if you zoom it.
The file size is smaller.

Upload the jpg file with the name: surname_parrot_poor.jpg.

1.4: Crop an Image

Open again the file parrot_original (downloads folder).

Crop a rectangle of the image.
Export the file as jpg and upload it with the name: surname_parrot_crop.jpg.

1.5: Flip an Image

Open again the file parrot_original (downloads folder).

Flip the image vertically.
Export the file as jpg and upload it with the name: surname_parrot_flipped.jpg.

1.6: Rotate an Image

Open again the image of the parrot (downloads folder).
Rotate the image 180º. Can you tell the difference between this image and the previous one?
Export the file as jpg and upload it with the name: surname_parrot_rotated.jpg.
