When you hear the word "Communicable Disease", what comes in your mind?Do you want
to be a communicable disease nurse and why? Recalling what are your experiences and
preparations during the lockdownforfour to (5) months due to COVID19 pandemic. Write
your thoughts onwhy you have to wear mask, do social distancing, wash hands and boosty
our immune system inrelation to the study of Communicable Disease Nursing.

When I hear the words communicable or infectious, it makes me think about specific items
or medical situations that require extra caution and prevention, especially if I am placed in
an area where I could become infected or impacted by a disease or virus. We definitely hear
this word a lot, just like when COVID-19 hit us last year. This virus has obviously boosted
awareness among many people, not just mine. I noted that it was only at that time that
people began to recognize the need of hand washing and disinfection, which may seem
obvious but which few people do religiously.

If I had been a nurse at the time of the pandemic, I would have volunteered or assisted with
the increasing number of patients in our country. During the 5 months of quarantine last
year, I made every effort to reduce virus transmission and keep myself and my family
virus-free. As a nursing student, I taught my family proper hand-washing techniques and
how to wear masks in the event that we had to leave the house to buy necessities. I also
ensured that our immune systems were boosted by taking our daily vitamins and following
all of the basic safety measures and protocols when I was outside.

Of course, I'd like to gain more experience working with communicable diseases, which are
more prevalent in institutions like San Lazaro Hospital, and if I'm ever assigned to work
there, I'll have to make sure that I do the necessary steps to break the chain of infection,
such as handwashing and wearing masks and PPE's. These are only the fundamentals, but
the most important thing to do is to be mindful of your surroundings, especially if you are
traveling around a place where you are prone to becoming infected, in order to keep my
family from becoming sick as well
