“Masarap Kahit ‘Di Mahal”

The advertisement entitled “JolliSavers TVC” was an ad by a famous food corporation

commonly known as Jollibee. The video was produced by DRPS One- PH TV Ad Archive

Channel to promote the product of the company with quality taste on an affordable budget with a

tagline: “’Di dapat mahal maging masaya.” The advertisement depicts a woman who is a

saleslady and a man who is checking out a designer jacket. Upon checking out the product, he

seems delighted about its quality not until he heard about its price which is unimaginable

considering that it cost too many thousands for just a piece of clothing. He thought of how

impractical it is to buy a luxury item such as a jacket because it does nothing special and just

serves like ordinary cloth. The man then walks out of the store and got a Yumburger which is the

focus of the advertisement and proceeded to promote the product with a premium quality taste

that comes with an affordable price. The video displayed an unconventionally attractive

advertisement that entails a strong statement that consumers can enjoy a delicious product with

quality taste without spending too much money on it.

An advertisement’s main purpose is to promote or sell a product to gain the viewer’s

interest which would attract them to try and buy the item. In this video, the producers piqued the

viewer’s attention when they displayed a non-conventional act of absurdism incorporated into a

consumer’s daily life. It can be seen in the part where he is questioning the practicality of the

jacket that costs P22,000. This type of marketing is slowly emerging and one example of this is

an advertisement from RC Cola, where a boy confronted his mother about him being adopted

because he is different from his family but later on found out that they are keeping it a secret.
This type of marketing has been appealing especially to Gen Z since it uses a new approach and

is moving away from the commonly used dynamic of an advertisement.

Moreover, the advertisement highlighted the significant product as it is the main purpose of the

video. The Yumburger, Jolly Spaghetti, Jolly Hotdog, etc. were given enough screen time along

with their affordable prices to attract the viewers. Second, they used to hook the attention of the

viewers by hiring Joshua Garcia, a famous actor, who is popular with Millennial and Gen Z.

Another commendable thing about this advertisement is that though it may be for a brief second,

it tackled an issue about capitalism and how many people are being consumed by it. The scenario

where the store sells an overpriced jacket says a lot about the culture where people buy luxurious

things instead of prioritizing practicality in exchange for status. The advertisement is also a

simple reminder for the viewers that they can still enjoy good quality products without spending

a lot of money.

DRPS One- PH TV Ad Archive Channel’s “JolliSavers TVC” did not fail to capture the

viewer’s attention and showcase their product with their marketing style. The hint of absurdism

and effective display of the product was helpful as they highlighted what the company desires: to

promote the product with affordable prices that will surely be enjoyed by people on a budget.

The scenario shown in the advertisement was also remarkable as it left a message for the viewers

that they can still enjoy a delicious meal without spending a lot. Overall, the advertisement video

deserves recognition for its efforts and may improve more in exploring different types of

approaches in marketing styles.
