Irregular Tones
The tone pronunciation of some common words has”
evolved and they are now usually pronounced differently from the
way they are written in Thai script

fal (di-chan) is usually pronounced ®4 idi-chan).

Vil (MA) (the question particle) 1s usually pronounced
Ne (mai).
In our transliteration system, we give the pronunciation
most commonly used by modern Thai speakers.
