Chomsky’s famous works

Noam Chomsky, an American linguist philosopher has contributed a lot and play a
major role in English linguistics. As one of the most well-known philosophers, Chomsky
have created a lot of works that are still used until these days.

One of his works that are still in used today is the Universal Grammar Theory.
Universal Grammar Theory is a linguistic concept that emphasized that all children are born
with certain ability to learn, develop and understand language. This theory of Chomsky was
introduced in the 1950’s and 1960’s by Chomsky himself. His theory applies from the most
basic to the most complicated language flaws found in language. Chomsky’s theory of
Universal Grammar is based on three specific and detailed principles which are universality
of language, convergence and poverty of stimulus. Although different language has different
linguistic rules, speech figures and grammar, everyone have the desire and ability to learn and
use all languages. The three principles of Universal Grammar have been proven to be
effective and rationalize why language comprehension can be adjusted so easily when an
individual is still young.

Besides Universal Grammar Theory, another contribution of Chomsky that are being
used these days is the Generative Grammar Theory. Generative Grammar is a theory of
grammar that believes human language is formed by a set of fundamental principles that are
part of the human brain. It is a branch of theoretical linguistics that works to provide a set of
rules that can be accurately predict which combinations of words are likely to form
grammatically correct sentences. Generative Grammar has been associated with different
schools of linguistics such as transformational grammar, relational grammar and more. The
study of Generative Grammar began in the 1950’s by Noam Chomsky, a notable and
admiring American philosopher. It can be seen as a means of formalizing the implicit rules
that a person seems to know when expressing themselves in their mother tongue language.
