a What is a sludge tank?

Oily wastes from oily water filtering or separating equipment, as well
as fuel and lubricating oil purification, are collected in this tank.

b What is a sight glass?

Allows you to look inside a process vessel or tank. Sight glasses are used by operators to visually
check process stages, inspect process material, and monitor liquid levels.

c What other machineries have sight glass?

Sight glasses are prevalent in sectors that operate pressured systems,
such as boilers, steam generators, cement manufacturing, and breweries.

d What are the four cycle of four stroke of the engine?

The intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust.

e What is the responsibility of an engine cadet/ apprentice during fire drill?
You must inform the officer on watch. Try to stop the fire and when the fire can no longer
be put out, muster according to the fire muster list.

Chief Engineer- holds overall leadership and the responsibility of that department.
Second Engineer- responsible for supervising the daily maintenance and operation of the engine department.
Third Engineer- usually in charge of boilers, fuel, auxiliary engines, condensate and feed systems.
g What is purifier?
The purifier filters and cleanses the interior air, eliminating impurities and contaminants from numerous sources.

h In case of steering gear failure, what are the safety procedures to be followed and who is in charge?
First, make a call to the master and inform the engineer officer on duty. Then, report to the
office, tell the port authority, and determine the location and time of the vessel's failure.
Lastly, investigate for navigational problems and the source of the malfunction.
