BACKGROUND
The school is facing challenges to get speakers on functions such as Prize Giving Days. Learners are afraid to participate in public speaking and
poetry as they are not fluent in English.

THE ACTIVITY
The CALA consists of two parts thus PART A and PART B.
PART A
-research on why fluency is a challenge in English speaking both at home and at school.
-interviews on why fluency is an obstacle to English communication.
-collection of poetry from different reading materials or videos or audios on public speaking and poetry
-writing notes on information collected.
-submission of research
PART B
- Using information in part A write a poem or speech
-recite the poem or present a speech
HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

 The facilitator will assess and award marks for:


-research, interviews, collection of poetry from different reading materials or videos or audios, writing of poems and speeches as well as
reciting and presenting them.
-Achievement standards specific to this CALA will be provided so that are aware of the assessment criteria.
CALA TIPS
-As you carry out your research, remember to write notes, use ICT tool, make recordings or take videos.
-When presenting learners can refer to notes.
-The learner can use voice intonation and show confidence to show that he or she researched.
