Aquilion Multi - Big flash in the gantry

Phenomenon
While the gantry was not rotating a big flash was observed. The operators stopped using the
system immediately.

Observations and interventions

Inspection showed that the problem occurred in the slip-ring-brush section.

Solution
The damage section of the slip-ring was polished and system was put back in operation.

The origin of the problem is not known.

The risk that this type of problem occurs can be minimized by performing the maintenance
according to the instructions provided in the various installation, maintenance and service
manuals. This includes proper cleaning, brush replacement, brush alignment with respect to the
slip-ring surface, etc.

If this type of problem has occurred then polishing,, with the specified sandpaper only, can be
attempted as a temporary fix. Basically the slip-rings should be replaced.
