    An intermittent ring artifact was observed on scans from an Aquilion Multi CT scanner. Investigation of raw data showed the problem was located near channels processed by a specific module data digital converter (MDDC). Swapping the MDDC and testing the main controller (MCONT) board ruled them out as causes. The problem was suspected to originate in connectors of the MDDC board at the backplane board in the detector assembly. Replacing the detector assembly solved the issue.

    Phenomenon
    Occasionally a sharp band ring shape artifact must have been observed.

    Observations and interventions


    Investigation with DCA, using raw data from the raw data disk, showed that the problem was
    located on or near the channels processed by MDDC nr 9.

    Swopping the MDDC made no difference.


    A test of the MCONT board at another site proved that the MCONT board was OK.

    The problem is suspected to originate in the MDDC board connectors at the backplane board in
    the detector assembly. Replacement of the detector assembly solved the problem.

    Solution
    Replacement of the detector.
