Full Name: Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Born: July 7, 1981, Ranchi, Bihar Major teams: India, Jharkhand Batting style: Right-hand bat Fielding Position: Wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the best known Indian Cricket players, who was made the Captain of the Indian Cricket team in the year 2007. One of the most flamboyant Indian Cricket stars ever, Dhoni is also fondly known as Mahi by the huge number of his fans particularly comprising of a big percentage of females. And not only his looks and style Dhoni equally proved to be a hard hitting batsman and one of the best Captains the Indian Cricket team has ever seen. He scored good number of runs in a consistent manner for a period of time, and soon grabbed the No. 1 position in the One Day International (ODI) Cricket rankings issued by International Cricket Council (ICC) in the year 2005-06. Mahendra Singh Dhoni started his first class career in the year 1999-2000. His one day international debut came after playing five years of first class cricket on the 23rd of December 2004 against Bangladesh. The venue of the match was in Chittagong, Bangladesh. Unfortunately, he was run out on the first ball he faced. It wasn t a great debut for him where batting is concerned. Luck wasn t on his side in the first four matches he played. Where as on the fifth match which was played against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam, Dhoni came to the crease one down and managed to score 148 runs from just 123 balls. He hit 15 boundaries and four sixes. He got his first man of the match award that day. Not only a good wicketkeeper but Dhoni proved himself to be a first class batsman too. He is one of the few finest wicketkeeper batsman India has seen after a very long time. Dhoni was born in Ranchi, the state capital of Jharkhand on the 7th of July 1981, and was brought up in the same city. His parents originally hailed from a village in Uttarakhand. In his childhood Dhoni played Badminton and Football, and was sent by his Football coach to play Cricket. He began the journey as the wicketkeeper at the Commando Cricket Club in the year 1995, and was selected for the Under-16 Vinoo Mankad Trophy in the year 1997-9

Dhoni was born and brought up in the city of Ranchi. He has two siblings. A sister who is married and a brother who lives in Almora. Almora is a high-lying town at the foot of the Himalaya which is his fathers home town. His fathers name is Pan Singh and mothers name is Devki Devi. His hobbies and interests include:

Kapil Dev lauds Mahendra Singh Dhoni for leadership skills


Former Indian captain, Kapil Dev, is of the view that Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the present Indian skipper has some amazing qualities in his leadership. Kapil Dev admired Dhoni for his audacious and fearless attitude, whenever he is playing in a game. He exclaimed, It is very difficult to speak about my qualities but I think Dhoni's approach to the game is very simple and straight. The one quality that I admire about him is his willingness to take risks.

Dhoni gives the following Leadership tips for every aspiring Leader : 1. We should be a performer and we should demonstrate the same to our team. Performance is itself the most effective communication down the line. 2. Leader has to be humble in way to consider part and parcel of the team and not above the team. 3. Give genuine respect and trust to the team members. 4. Allow them to experiment and take risk. 5. In case of failure, encourage him / her to introspect and do it next time with more vigour and better planning. 6. Make every one in the team feel that , even though we are leaders, we are just one among them.

7. We should also believe in the ones who failed in the Team. At crucial times a team member who was not able to deliver might do miracles. 8. As a leader, be calm in extreme situations and lead the team from front. 9. Share the credit of success with your team members and praise them in public. 10. Above all believe in every member in the team. Managing under change is a vital attribute to be learned from the leadership under Dhoni. A good leader doesnt mind going out and exploring. Dhonis risk taking ability, inclusiveness and time-pressure qualities are good examples of leaders on the business side.Dhoni utilizes every team member at his disposal and brings out the best performance whether he is a senior or junior player.
