people. An expeditious increase of
growth by approximately 2 million has
been predicted in the future.

However, with no sign of a graph of the

With 48 countries under Asia.

Approximately 4.7 billion people
live in Asia making it the most
populated continent on the planet.

Settlement patterns
Climate-
Due to its tropical monsoon environment, the weather of Manila occasionally comes
with 2 distinct seasons; dry and wet. From December to May, it's dry and from June to
November, it's wet. In Manila, the average annual temperature is approximately 27°C,
whereas the average annual rainfall is about 2,000mm.

In a huge city, the tropical monsoon season creates a very humid and sticky
environment. Nonetheless, due to its proximity to the sea, Manila has a pleasant sea
breeze that helps to mitigate the high heat and humidity.

Topography-
Almost the whole city of Manila is constructed on top of generations of prehistoric
alluvial deposits, accumulated by the waters of the Pasig River, as well as some ground
reclaimed from Manila Bay. Since the American colonial era, human involvement has
significantly affected Manila's landscape, including significant land reclamation around
the waterfronts. Some of the city's inherent topographic variances have been smoothed
and evened out

Traffic congestions(push)-
The Philippines has been stated as being the 9th worst
traffic in the world. Due to its ineffectual design
(particularly around U-turns and merges), a lack of viable
alternatives to driving, and its lax enforcement of traffic
regulations. This allows for a chaotic, free-for-all driving
style which causes various consequences to individuals'
lateness, human health and waste of valuable time.

Transportation (pull)-
Transportation has been provided across the Philippines
containing various options such as jeepneys, taxis, buses,
the Light Rail Transit, the Metro Rail Transit and tricycle;
these are the main uses most Filipinos use daily (jeepneys
being the most popular). Its transportation is supplied with
long and short distance travel which can travel to all parts
of the country.

Education (pull)-
The value of education has shown across the Philippines and has a great number of
attractions around the world. Manila has approximately 500 schools and 200 colleges.
Manila University is ranked 63rd out of nearly 300 universities in Asia. The average
literacy rate is 92 per cent, and the vast majority of students attend institutions with
excellent educational standards, including the so-called "university belt," a district tightly
populated with universities.

Filipino parents have significantly influenced this outstanding matter of standards, they
feel that obtaining a higher education will provide them with possibilities that will allow
them to have a better future and finally pull them out of poverty.

Impacts of urbanisation on the natural environment- Air

pollution
Manila continuously gains environmental issues
due to the consequences of rapid urbanisation. Air
pollution is a serious matter which is caused by
the country’s population growth.

The poor quality of the surrounding atmosphere in

the region was caused by the region's growing
population and increase in urbanisation. According
to statistics, Manila has persistently high levels of
health burn from air pollution with around 80% being caused by vehicle emissions.
Landfill burning, fabric and wood industries and petroleum refining also contribute to the
poor air quality in the Philippines.

Air pollution can significantly affect individuals from Manila and also other urbanised
cities with their well-being. Accounting for around 5% of all reported illness cases and
4% of all reported deaths in the nation. Air pollution is a major cause of respiratory
conditions such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and cardiovascular
disease. The annual economic effect of health costs and missed income is projected to
be PHP7.6 billion (US$153 million). In the Philippines, almost 18 million people live in
cities with dangerous amounts of particulate matter in the air.

Impacts of urbanisation on society- Poverty
Around 34.2% of the total household population live
in poverty in Manila. The main reason is the drastic
increase in population growth called urbanisation.
Filipinos are struggling to survive in such harsh
conditions due to poverty, poverty has proven to be
one of the most serious issues confronting its country
and its residents. With serious issues becoming more
inevitable the increase of numbers are sinking into
abject poverty.

As local governments are unable to offer services to

all residents. The Philippines ' economic growth and development decreases due to
poverty. To survive, the less fortunate individuals rely on their income. As a result, they
cannot invest in human capital, physical capital, or their health. Therefore, economic
investments are lowered, resulting in a less productive labour force.
